Chandran KR
these should be bonus medals
by Chandran KR on Aug 16, 2016 01:51 PM

We cannot expect medals in individual items where the winner is decided by judges, referees, and also team events like hockey. These depend on your form on that day. What we should do is find out talent that can match speed races like 100 m, 200, 400 relay (even this depends on baton exchange), swimming, canoeing. These athletes should touch world class timings and medals are sure, may be they might lose by a whisker if at all. Find an Indian Usain bolt who consistently perform 10 seconds. We should target these timings. you can't expect a sprinter doing 12 seconds to win. All other medals must be considered bonus medals. The govt should find out individuals who might remain hidden in the some rural areas or tribal areas and even in cities, there might be individual or parents who don't know the talent exists.

OLYMPIC MEDAL cannot be purchased so easily.
by Sreejith R.S. on Aug 16, 2016 01:44 PM

indians per se genetecally have a weak physique and that shows in most of the sports. our medals mostly comes from "not physically too demanding" arenas like shooting. but having said that, the government is too late to chip in with its help for any budding star. all of a sudden spending crores on an athelete wont cover up for decades of poor nourishment and poor infrastructure , trainig and exposure. we need to catch them young and groom them up all the way to olympics.
my heart went out to duti chand's frail stature in front of stronger and taller ladies , there it was .. the indian gene, the indian government's effort, the best among 130 crores, the national hope, nevertheless she ran with all her heart.. and didint blame her loss on any lack of resources, rather took it upon herself. she is also a true and patriotic indian who perhaps loves our contry more than we leesser mortals do. lets not forget this hero too.
and finally there was our pot bellied minister, with utter disdain for the sacrifice a sportts person makes to reach and set foot on the olynmic ground, waiving his free pass, and shamelessly demanding respect , at the cost of shame to our entire nation. this is olympic 2016 for india

Again request to Modi
by Chandran KR on Aug 16, 2016 01:40 PM

Please remove the sports minister Vijay Goel. He is not the performer. He should travel by economy class and let the sports people who are competing travel by business class. Probably his cronies too traveled by business class.

India at the Olympics
by phil don on Aug 16, 2016 01:39 PM

As a school student and as a college student, I was involved in sports activities. I had the honour of representing my school and college at the inter-school and inter college sports meets. One thing stands out about our athletes and sportsmen. THEY HAVE ACQUITTED THEMSELVES HONOURABLY. Dipa, Lalita and others performed FAR ABOVE their earlier performances. It is up to us to encourage our youngsters to take part in competitive sport and not just cram to become book worms.

VIJAY RAMAKRISHNAN
Not appreciating women
by VIJAY RAMAKRISHNAN on Aug 16, 2016 12:37 PM

It is wrong to say that in India women athletes are not appreciated. It is just that every Indian feels bad that we are not able to win a single medal in Olympics in spite of being country of 125 crores. People would say that only cricketers are appreciated but look at the other sports which have gained popularity. would anybody say that Sania Mirza / Saina Nehwal / PV sindhu are not appreciated. The only people who are not appreciated are people who make tall claims and do not perform.

Aditya Misra
No Doubt
by Aditya Misra on Aug 16, 2016 12:35 PM

No doubt Dipa's achievement is great. And the though that she could have won it just with another 0.15 points makes it much more than just ran. We must encourage her, and the sports ministry or any other sponsor must work on her, support her for next 4 years, get her best of the training available in the world, and let her prepare with teh best facilities, for teh next Olympics. She is already a hero, a bigger hero than many of the cricketers. Kudos to you Dipa, we are proud of you.
