PVN Rao lost elections and public confidence because...
by saurabh on Sep 02, 2015 06:21 PM

1. His leadership lost 1997 Lok Sabha election miserably.
2. It was easy to sell Public Sector Assets/open up economy in 1990s as India was more of closed & socialist economy then. Now its tough as Private equity investments and Public sector investements ahev balanced out.
3. While selling off public assets (opening up economy) people in power ate some of its stake i.e. Various scams happened like Telecom Scam (HFCL & Sukhram), Equity Scam (Harshad Mehta) etc.
People realised in the name of opening up economy Congress Party then is making thier own share cut... elections results reflected that.
He was an average PM not outstanding one.

Hero Narasimha Rao
by Ananth Raman Iyer on Sep 02, 2015 06:16 PM  | Hide replies

Suddenly Ramesh remembers Narasimha Rao as I know he only knows Sonia and Rahul I thought for the last 10 years . Ah its the Modiji influence of remembering Narasimha Rao otherwise Congress is blind to all other leaders from the Party.

not becoz of scams & policies. Rao became oversmart and cooked up Fake Jain Hawala case where he put false case against Advani & many important rival Congress leaders (who broke & formed Tiwari Congress, so Congress became weak)

MMS integrity; Politicians are not made like that anymore
by chamarthy kumar on Sep 02, 2015 05:57 PM  | Hide replies

Manmohan Singh was worried that his personal rupee balance, born out of modest dollar savings from his South Commission stint in Geneva during 1987-90, would swell with the proposed changes in the rupee-dollar exchange rate. Therefore, he informed the prime minister that the 'windfall' gains would be deposited in the Prime Minister's Relief Fund

Prime Minister needs to be public elected leader (a least faced one Lok Sabha election) which MMS was not.
