To be truthful, during his tenure railway posted good profit moreover the cleanliness of stations were high levelslevels. He was also invited by some foreign university to give lecture on how he achieved

We were 35 crore in 1950 and now 125 crore, politicians like Mamta etc., have finished railway due to cheap popularity and only looked after West Bengal. Prior to Mamta everyone exploited rly to create vote bank for their area by way of employment and minting money. How long this can continue.

Dear Sir when people expect everything subsidised, from where the resources come? Indian polity is paralysed by the trend setup since our independence. There needs to be statesmanship / sensible politics. Is it possible when most Indian voter thinks that he only has to vote for the people who dole out subsidies indiscriminately for their personal political gains? Technically The disease has the solution but not the societal mental illness. People want the miracle which is impossible. Every seed needs its own time to grow big and live long. Only Prabhu can help Prabhu as you rightly said.

May be the most populated part of the country is posting maximum loss. Will the Railways be bold enough to indicate Zonal wise profit / loss and the corrective measures ?

and then the government wants to run a bullet train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad which is very well connected by train. Any justification for spending 65000 crores.

Can you not divert the money to repair bridge constructed almost 100 years ago and reduce the chances of big mishap.

THOUGH GOOD ARTICLE,
FEW FOLLOWING STEPS WILL IMPROVE RAILWAYS.
1. ENTRY AND EXIT SHOULD BE CONTROLLED ..THIS WILL CHECK TICKET LESS TRAVELs, which bleeds railways.
2. Rail Fare must be at Par with State Transport Buses. Find out bus fare between any two small towns in UP and just compare that with ordinary second class fare or go to higher end cities having sleeper coaches and just compare their fare and railway 3 tier fare.
3 Put a fence along railway line, no cows, no theft of coal from moving trains and no accidents, you simple are able to increase speed 20% with same track and mechanism.
4 No need for bullet train, just ensure every rail track is double and electrified and your speed increases 40-50% which is sufficient for size and population density of India.
5 Just ensure cleanliness by sweepers on rolls of railways, it seems like municipality sweepers they work only on paper.

To add the above point. People will never go to Bus if the fares are increased as it is very difficult to travel by bus for 15 to 24 hrs, where as train is comfortable. The 1 and 2 and 3 tier AC fares cannot be increased a they have to compete with AIR fares, but they do can increase the cleaper class fares. They can have 2-3 house keeping boys for each wagon for clean railways which they can charge and collect from fare.
