Accountability and the Railways
by m ragavan on Feb 25, 2015 01:59 PM

I am an accounts person with 32 years accounts experience. I have worked in companies where they have few branches and a head office. They prepare seperate branchwise balance sheets to know the working and profitability of each branch and also a consolidated balance sheet of the head office. Thus we can know how each branch is doing and the total effect of the head office. This sort of system should be followed by Railways also as they are already split up into various divisions like southern, south western, central, south central railways. So we can know the performance of each division and its profitability and each division can be responsible for their divisional workings

Blame the Congress
by Vicks on Feb 25, 2015 01:44 PM

The Congress governed the country the most. Therefore they all blame should be on them for the mess up of Railways and Airways.

Government is not to be blamed
by Devdutt Sen on Feb 25, 2015 01:44 PM

The people of this country are the main culprits.
Low expectations and poor understanding coupled with well groomed illiteracy for almost a centuries by the British and then by the Congress has led to people choosing representatives like Mamata, Lalu et al, who have systematically brought the Railways to this condition.
The recent foolishness of our people in choosing Kejriwal and the latest spate of Idiotic Anna returning to plague the Indian economy, just reinforces my point that the people of India deserve nothing better than what they have been getting

Terrible situation in railways ....
by Niharendu Mukhopadhyay on Feb 25, 2015 12:39 PM

As stated by Ex-Railways Minister Mr Dinesh Trivedi : "The railways has no accounting system, so you can do jugglery. It has no accounting system. Nobody knows precisely which activity is giving you profit, which is not giving you profit...... The establishment, the various governments have used the railways as a political tool. That if you support us, we will give you the railways.

Railways have always been used as a carrot, and not as a national asset. I think we have done a total disservice to the nation by using the railways as a bribe." ...
This is the state of affairs of the Railway Ministry .... Why so enormous power is given to the Minister without any accountability at the following years of Budget and at future too?

The Railways

I feel that Mr.Dinesh Trivedi's view is worth consideration. Long back,Prime Minister P.V.Narasimha Rao kick-started the very ambitious Project Unigauge - converting all meter gauge lines to broad gauge with a budgetary support of Rs.1,00,000 crore.Alas, the project is still in doldrums & not much has been achieved even after spending more than the allocated amount.I feel, considering the inflation,an allocation of Rs.200 billion should be made for the overhaul & renewal of all movable assets of the railways over a period of 5 yrs that makes Rs.40 billion a year - not a big amount. But this is on today's rates. The amount would change considering the increase in cost & under table payments for which our system is so infamed.Railways should also get the treatment of Holy Cow just like the Armed Forces. Only then it would be able to sustain itself & also provide the breathing line to the Indian Economy. The goods train is also called Indian economy on rails. It will be prudent to add that railways should be provided aid on urgent basis so that its lifeline is extended as a milk cow.The unity of our country is largely dependant on railways just like the Armed Forces. The scrap management process should also be initiated for supporting the recycling & support process.

The so called hue and cry of opposition on the proposed land acquisition bill of the Modi led government at centre is completely baseless. If centre is acquiring farmer's land with the approval of more than 75% farmer community of a region, then it is not unfair. I also want to get assurance from Prime Minister that government will not forcefully evicts farmers from their land. Any acquisition of farmers' land must be based on the consent of majority of farmers of a region. Government need not to explain opposition or media the motives of acquiring farm land if it acquires it by wilful consent of the local farmers. I also want to advise Prime minister modi and his team not to introduce bullet trains in its very first full-fledged railway budgets. Government should also not weigh heavily so caled protest of anna hazare in Delhi against its proposed land acquisition bill.

Jai Hind,
Niraj Chandra Srivastwa

railway budget
by Rajagopalan on Feb 25, 2015 11:55 AM

The congress has made the railway budget to fool peoples. Lalu , Lady arrogant mamta and other Rly ministers never bothered to improve their working , instead failed in modernising the Rlys. The staff of Rlys feel that they are kings and enjoyed all free benefits for their enrire family and unions took them for ransom..by poor working..
Unions must be banned from Rlys and they must be rewarded based on profits..
