Railways
by virendra gupta on Feb 25, 2015 08:43 PM

Is it not a very pessimistic write up??
The country cannot and will not allow railways to go the air india way simply because now, we have at the helm, not the bunch of congress but a team led by Mr Narendra Modi. Things are bad , but they are to be faced, and I do hope Mr Prabhu will face the situation boldly without falling for any populism. WE had been hearing since last so many years that TOUGH DECISIONS are required. Well, I hope this team will have the courage to take tough decisions. Let it take 5 years for results to show up but let us make a beginning-a good and sound beginning.

parties like congress and AAP want people of India to remain poor always to get subsidies and in turn give votes to them. But tell the public that India will surpass Ameica, China in 2015, than 2025, than 2050, than 2075 like that. But India can never ever surpass America or China even a fool knows that.

Perfect analysis. The fares should have been raised progressively over a decade, but just to show that we are for the poor, it was not raised. Now the railways is sick and so also all the states. There are many states who have borrowed up to 3 lakh 50 thousand crores and are unable to pay now. Still these debts go on increasing every minute.
Modi has a very tough time. One side are religious fanatics, poverty and no finance with looming drought situations after April, May every year.

railways is british concept so if british rule was not there the French rule or Portugal rule could have used water of rivers sea ocean as means of transport like Netherlands Thailand some parts of India Bangladesh so apply science for 1. use water to help traveller 2. help farmers life
3. punish those misuse water
4. railway stations waste water

Don't agree.Railways is bankrupt not because of low fares. It is bankrupt because of inefficiency, corruption, theft etc. Also,90% people in the Railways do not deserve the sixth pay commission pay, let alone seventh pay commission.Public money going down the drains and when the Budget comes, the only option exercised is increasing fares.

Railways Bankrupt - Naturally!
by kumar kn on Feb 25, 2015 07:56 PM  | Hide replies

What do you expect? With Ministers like Lallu and Mamata who had pandered to vote banks nothing better was expected. Out of every Rs 100 earned, Rs 94 goes towards Salaries and Administration charges leaving only Rs 6 for new railway lines, safety measures, etc. Naturally the Railways will be bankrupt.

True, & I know for sure that Mr. Trivedi is the man who can get railways back on track - he is a person with vision.

I hope in the next phase of democracy, portfolios will go to able men with accountability and cutting across ALL political barriers - in a way, we don't need ANY Political party to run the country today.

WHAT ALL OF INDIA WANTS TODAY IS PEOPLE WORKING FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF INDIA in ALL HARD-HITTING REALITY-BITING SENSE, and NOT MAKING A FOOL OF THE PEOPLE !!! THAT'S all that people want: neta jo logon ko ullu na banaye.

Best brains and engineers!
by Harikrishnan Nair on Feb 25, 2015 06:59 PM  | Hide replies

If the best brains and engineers could make things better, all these days the best brains and engineers together would have made Indian railways the best in the world.

We need only average people, because everywhere average people are doing the work. But there must be a system to coordinate and get the best out of the massive workforce we have.

One thing, now the average Indian is better than the so-called best brains of yesterday. So-called best brains of yesterday still had the leftover of British slave chain on them.

The real problem is with the system of politics giving endless & unilateral power to the Railway Minister without any "checks & balance" and accountability ..... not with best of brains etc...

Railways can be turned around in just one day.............
by Rajesh Chheda on Feb 25, 2015 06:17 PM

To turn around railways, you need:-
1) Basic knowledge of engineering and electricals.
2)Basic Knowledge of energy and locomotion.
3)Basic knowledge of accountancy.
4)Ability to think like crooks who are running the railways.
5) Steely will to take on these crooks and lazy staffers who think a job in railway means no accountability.

Why bribes running into hundreds of millions of rupees for railway posts? because there is easily payback to this investment.

If corruption is decreased slightly, railways will turn profit, if mediumly there will be vast improvement........if corruption totally eliminated......railways will provide 50% of fiscal deficit.

Garbage dump?
by Nagarajan Viswanathan on Feb 25, 2015 05:57 PM

If you go anywhere near the Central Station in Chennai, both the the station and the surroundings look like a garbage dump. This is the case in almost all the other stations in India. The rolling stock and the rails are old and dirty. There is rampant corruption everywhere.Accidents are taking place as a routine. The entire railway system needs revamping?
