The Iron Lady of India made two great historical blunders. 1. Surrendering Katchatheevu an island which originally belongs to India to Srilanka; due to which the fishermen of Tamilnadu are being arrested and harassed by Srilanka day-in-day-out
2.Before the emergency there was indiscipline and disorder all over Indian society and government departments were under indiscipline and non punctuality.
the late PM should have lifted the emergency atleast after a minimum of 2yrs. Then atleast punctuality, order and discipline could have been there
No one belittles the contributions of Indira to the advancement of our nation.But the grouse is that the contributions and sacrifices of our country men not belonging to the Nehru dynasty are not adequately appreciated and written about.The Congress men who have been fawning the dynasty purposely named all the developments and schemes in the country after Jawahar to begin with and then Indira to be followed by Rajiv.I had a long spell of service in Gujarat, involving extensive touring.You travel but a few kilometers and you will be stepping into the territory of a new State.Out of the more than 500 States that Sardar merged with India, more than 250 States were in Gujarat.One can imagine the skill that one should posses to accomplish this task of merger of the erstwhile States with India-using guile, temptation, compulsion, diplomacy, threat of force as circumstances warranted.We should remember that in some parts of our country as it exists now, the erstwhile rulers had declared merger with Pakistan.But for the skill of respected Sardar Patel, we would have had pockets of Pakistan in our midst and India may not be the contiguous territory that it is now.We must be thankful to Narendrabhai for resurrecting the true images of our leaders not only neglected but decried by the Congress dispensation.We remember the slogan India is Indira and Indira is India.No.Had Sardar been our PM when Pakistan sent raiders into Kashmir, there would be no Kashmi problem today.
the whole nehru dynasty members were not from the public by dint of their service to people cause . all the members of Nehru family were nominated and were not elected but Patel was a farmer and represents poor farmers and had not got the ministerial post due to some dynasty family member there is no comparison of Indra with sardar patel who was the architect of India . .
Patel is the Iron Man of India is not in dispute. But to put Indira in same bracket is incorrect. Indira created Bhinderawala and paid for it by her life.Calling her martyr for this is wrong. She suffocated democracy which made her PM when she clamped emergency and rightly paid for it by her rule.These are great blots on her persona. Bangladesh is the crowning glory. Her tough behaviour towards Nixon was also reaction to the US ambassador's rude explanation for not being present to see her off on her visit to the US.Emergency degrades her all achievements. No dishonour was done to her when nation did not celebrate her death anniversary. Pl donot insult martyrs by calling her death a martyrs death.
No doubt, she ruled over India with iron mind, after her-now we are seeing an iron man-Modi. She put emergency to save her seat, Modi must put emergency for six months to bring all reforms together to govern this country to suit todays requirement, in democratic manner-not possible in 10 years, everywhere system are junked.
I agree Smt Indira Gandhi as Iron lady but with over confidence and working with wrong person result their assimilation. Sardar Ballbah Bhai Patel can not be camopare with Smt Indira Gandi. Sardar patel was the fighter and he was responsible for united India. There should be chapter in social book for for class VI about such leaders.
Please help me understand as to why should we remeber her as the so called Iron Lady maybe becasue at ther time we did not have any strong willed MAN to stand up to her, all we had were meek supporters. She was in my mind no better than an Autocrat leader who sis what she wanted and got away with it. She has again in my mind not contributed anything worthwhile towards the nation. She was in Power only because she was Nehru's daughter. I as a person would not like to remember her for more than 5 minutes in a year.

She was the person who de-stabilized Sri Lanka. At India's 'best interest' she trained and armed small rebel groups and made them strong in Sri lanka. As a result, still both countries suffer with loss of lives.
