Please help me understand as to why should we remeber her as the so called Iron Lady maybe becasue at ther time we did not have any strong willed MAN to stand up to her, all we had were meek supporters. She was in my mind no better than an Autocrat leader who sis what she wanted and got away with it. She has again in my mind not contributed anything worthwhile towards the nation. She was in Power only because she was Nehru's daughter. I as a person would not like to remember her for more than 5 minutes in a year.

She was the person who de-stabilized Sri Lanka. At India's 'best interest' she trained and armed small rebel groups and made them strong in Sri lanka. As a result, still both countries suffer with loss of lives.
Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister was a Mother of Developing India, WE never forget drought fighting 1973, Eating " Sukhdi" and Administrative Power, Family Planning, she never worried about Chair, she always worried about Countries safegard. Tribut to Indira Gandhi for the Hart Bottom .
To mention Indira Gandhi in the same breath as Sardar Patel is unpardonable sin against the nation. Sardar Patel created Free India. He participated at different stages in the freedom movement, making original contribution. He was the preferred choice as PM by most PCCs, but Gandhi imposed Nehru. Indira was imposed by Kamaraj,because of his personal loyalty to Nehru.She proved herself to be a clever manipulator and even showed Kamaraj his place..She killed independent thinking in the party;systematically sidelined state leaders, created a vacuum and filled it with her coteries;she bypassed open lines and ruled through back-room boys;she imposed Emergency, more horrible than the British rule, and giving us a state of Stalinist Russia. She had the temerity to imprison men of impeccable record of public service like Jayaprakash Narayan, Acharya Kripalani.She created conditions in which no leader of national stature could rise in any State, creating a sort of monopoly for her family. Psychophancy became the currency of governance. She undermined every democratic tradition and wanted even a committed judiciary. The sooner we forget Indiara( and in fact the entire Nehru clan and era) the better for the country.
It is most unfortunate that the head of the country ignored the homage to be paid for the former pm. She was the Pm and need to be recognised as pm only and not as a congress person.As rightly pointed by somebody, the person who speaks of policy and principlealways commits such smart mistakes. Another point to be noted that many of friends follow without making any judgement on the correctness. leet us not be blind to whatever he does.
Author is deliberately avoiding mention of the sorry chapter of Punjab which I.Gandhi almost lost due to her 'creation' of Bhindranwale to counter Darabara Singh.Were it not for K P S Gill as IGP Punjab we would've lost Punjab forever. She is singularly responsible for the hundreds of deaths of Punjabi youth. Nobody can ever forget or forgive her for this mistake. And for what ? Just to play politics & perpetuate her power hungry nature.

she has not created bhindranwals , bhindranwala has taken party in khalistan movement and was with ak dal. darbarasing was her favourite chief minister.
