The Forty-second Amendment of the Constitution of India was enacted during the Emergency (25 June 1975 - 21 March 1977) by the Indian National Congress government headed by Indira Gandhi. The 42nd Amendment is regarded as the most controversial constitutional amendment in Indian history. It attempted to reduce the power of the Supreme Court and High Courts to pronounce upon the constitutional validity of laws. It is sometimes called the "Constitution of Indira". This one action by Indira Gandhi is enough to nullify all alleged patriotic actions of hers.
The change in the Preamble from "SOVEREIGN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC" to "SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC" is also a fraudulent falsification of history, because "WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA solemnly resolved" only for the plain "SOVEREIGN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC", not the one with embellishments.

Not comparable

I somehow find this comparison between Sardar Patel and Indira Gandhi wrong. Indira sowed the seeds for dynastic politics , could not stand criticism and took decisions that had far reaching ill consequences for the nation (like encouraging Bhindaranwale). She centralised power and was responsible for the death of congress in many states. She also sowed the seeds of socialism (like nationalising banks) and was a disaster for Industrial development of the country. (remember the license raj with acts like MRTP etc.)..We always tend to look only at the positives of late leaders and forget their blunders

When Indira Gandhi became the PM , the country was in major issues, she just showed oasis on a thick Desert for certain time and as soon as she found people are blindly believing her , she started to the status of her family, it was coz of her one sided policy we still are in dilema in our border issues, she somewhere sowed the seeds of dynasty politics. I dont believe or even consider any of Gandhi family a good leader or their contribution to the country.

IRON LADY

Really India missed such personalities in politics especially like Sardar Patel and Indira GANDHI, strong willed leaders. Let us hope that Modiji fits in the bill to some extent. After Indira Gandhi we are not able to find substitutes for her. Atleast now we are hoping that Modiji will do some thing with grit and determination

Yes, really an iron lady. She showcased India to the world. During her period India became a nuclear power. World leaders respected her.Without her, there will be no Bangladesh. It was a great blow to Pakistan. She fought for the cause of Palestine. We need such a bold and courageous leader.
