Lakshmi. just because you are a slave in your job doesn't mean everyone is that. You or your friends may be working as consultants in US, but that consultancy is owned by another Indian. So who is slave under whom. If you are paid 10 times lower than locals, then you must be a maid under a person like Devyani. Don't worry, send email to your colleagues like Devyani did and Indian govt. will come save you.

True. H1B workers have no rights. This is US, Not India where even illegal immigrants (from neighbors) are given ration cards and voter IDs

India would not sustain for even a month without US' support.
With the IT industry growing because of US, that India is seeing some improvement.

All this talk of agression against US is like a Frog thinking of taking on a Lion.

What are we doing in IT... enabling someone else's business? same age old colonial east indian companies.. until 1650, India had wealth of 1/3rd of the world.... but after 1947... we had 2%.... by 1991, we literally sold our country to MNC's thats why we are still slaves to IT mnc's who are our bosses here.... all those ugly managers of europe who occupied US who goes to prostitutes every day. I look at IT workers as prostitutes or brokers.. and gave independence to India when they though its useless to stay in India because the same time if they spend in US, they get much more money... thats why we got independence... learn history first.....

why are you still having slave mentality.. get maturity first

I agree with you...Well..they are lions now. even a lion can be controlled by a master.. it takes time... if you know Art of War... it takes several decades of effort before you really win the battle.

We talk of rights
by sreejith p on Jan 11, 2014 11:26 AM

How come India supports such a lady? We have lot of laws pertaining the labor law. Here in india we pay a domestic helper an amount of 7000 .for a month of work with holidays and how come this lady gave 30000 for the same work in US. Atleast if that person being a human feels to eat outside for one day the cost will be 1000 rs wn devyanis wine expenditure will be more that 30000 rs in month. I do not understand no one from india tried to see the plight of the worker instead they felt the pride of india.
This lady is married to a foreigner and the government is not bothered about it and her father says that the servent was cia agent.Cant it be other way devyanis husband was cia supporter wn he had issues they created this mess. I pitty on india wn our soldiers die on Bangladesh border, poor fisher man are kept captive in srilanka prison india wont take action .But will take action wn it is not necesory ? You should be born rich to survive in india poor has no mercy..

LAW BREAKING OFFICERS
by abhay manudhane on Jan 11, 2014 11:17 AM

Its sad that a senior IFS officer broke US law. Whatever may be controversy for soverignity of India, fact remains, our diplomat broke law of the country where she was posted
It is high time that Ministry of External Affairs take strict action against all such officers who broke overseas laws and brought shame to our country.
It goes without saying that no one is above law and high ranking officials should be more responsible and they should be subjected to more punishment then ordinary citizen.

The question was much bigger than Devyani
by lahiri alokesh on Jan 11, 2014 11:07 AM

The point in question was much bigger than Devyani Khobragade.1.It was a breach of understanding by USA regarding maids of consulate posted in USA.2.It was a violation od Vienna Convention to handcuff & stripsearch a consular staff having immunity 3.It was a disregard to Indian legal system by evacuating the husband and children of the maid in the name of witness protection4.It was a pointer that Indo-US relationship is only dependent on subservience of India. The whole problem was due to the same and India has taken a correct stand.Contrary to the belief of the author, the Indian public stood solidly behind Devyani. The media, diplomats and public at large in India created tremendous impact and the result we see today is the consequence of the pressure on USA.India should now try to vacate the case on Devyani or otherwise, put up cases on the USA consular staff for the different violations of Indian penal code.Bilateral relations only thrive when mutual interests are served.

Devyani & Her Father - Apt examples of Entitlement Culture
by Bala Subramaniam on Jan 11, 2014 11:05 AM  | Hide replies

In all the media hype, no one is asking the questions on how the quota system has transformed into an entitlement. How did her father get into the IAS, How did she get a medical seat, How did she parlay it into selection into the IFS, with a convenient marriage to a US Citizen and a super convenient transfer to the US.Why is her father converting a simple case of her getting caught into a debate on National sovereignty and International coventions. All merely because they have a right or entitlement on grounds of being SC/ST. More important the list of properties seemingly gifted to her by her father should provide enough room for a probe. How does an honest IAS officer, assuming Khobragade was one such, acquire so much in one career.

You are right brother. This is not first case of taking servants overseas by diplomats. But so far, all diplomats "managed", with their competence. If a senior IFS?IAS officer can not manage such issues, how can they manage country? Afterall its a "merit" that matters. Its high time we select ONLY MERIT CANDIDATES for such high ranking positions. (however I do not mean that those who "managed" so far needs to be supported. What I wish to point out is "managerial capability" of high ranking officers)
