excellent article, well written, but will it have any effect on sycophants?? doubtful!! Pranabji is one respected leader in Indian politics who wouldnt succumb to party pressures. But going by our political culture they may try to use his son who is a cong.MP !! wonder why he went to meet Lalu in jail??!!

DOESN'T MATTER TO REST OF INDIA. IN ANY CASE DID SMALLER STATES IN THE PAST HELP COMMON PEOPLE ? WE YEARN FOR TRANSPARENT AND EFFICIENT GOVERNANCE AND NOT INTERESTED IN TRS RAO'S OR NAIDU'S PETTY POLITICS.

Only two possibilities. Pranab ji is the most loyal Congress man or he is waiting for his perfect time and move to show the first family his power and capacity for ignoring him as capable for PM position in 2004 and 2009. The first possibilty may be true only to 99.5% since he had his t iff with Rahul Ji and formed a PP before merging with congress again.
Ruling dynasty is scared of Pranab, who may act like a working President, instead of rubber stamp. But what is the worry? At least PM is a dummy. I think Pranab hs not forgotten the snub from Rajiv after Indir's assassination, after which he had left Cong for some time
Congress's First Family's insecurity about Pranab Mukherjee's intentions that's why even though having nice capacity to handle the situation as PM, Congress's first family asked him to take charge as President. So that they will enter in day-to-day functioning. Soniji/ Rahulji was too much interested with Manmohanji as PM because they can handle him easily & also pressurised him at any time according to their wish. Manmohanji also happy to work under them. If we see PM's any statement on any issue, without asking Soniaji he never gave. Even in press he is reading the written statement given to them. I feel even though Pranabji wish to become PM, he will never be PM till Congress under Soniaji/Rahulji. Another factor, there are so many other leaders who are always ready to act as per wish of Soniaji/Rahulji. AND MOST IMPORTANT THING IS ALMOST ALL CONGRESS LEADER'S CONFIDENTIAL FILES ARE WITH SONIAJI/ RAHULJI WHICH WAS PREPARED BY NEHRU/INDIRAJI, THAT'S WHY NOT A SINGLE LEADER FROM CONGRESS PARTY NEVER OPPOSE GANDHI FAMILY. I THINK IN THE CASE OF PRANAB MUKHARJEE, HE IS DOING FAIR POLITICS, AND TAKING FAIR DECESION. WE CAN SAY THAT IF LEADERS LIKE PRANABJI, WE CAN SEE OUR BETTER PROSPECTS.

Pranab was by far the most experienced and knowledgeable Congressman having served in many cabinet positions under various PMs including Indira Gandhi. Rahul is a Baby in front of him. Sonia didn't want to release Pranab for President's post but Mamata forced her hand. In his long innings Pranab has also made a few mistakes. But he is a loyal Congressman and is ready to Bend but not Crawl like MMS before Sonia. He got fed up of the things going on and quietly shifted residence.
