English was introduced for colonial administrative language
by Ananda Raj on Mar 21, 2013 08:32 AM  | Hide replies

Dr.William Jones glorified and introduced sanskrit as administrative language. He failed. Then they created Hindi language with sankrit scripts and spent money for popularise. Again they failed. English was introduced in educational system. Still quality of english is poor, because of age old teaching methodology. Indians use more englsh words, but they can not speak, think, understand, write English correctly. This is INDLISH.
Economics play key role for growth of English.
Millions of Biharis, Jarkhandis, Oriyas, bengalis UPwallas speak TAMIL in as they migrated to Tamilnadu for employment, though they hate Tamils in all respect to-day politically. They sent money about Rs one lakh crore annually to their home states to prosper.

The problem is adoption of English as the main language at the expense of native ones. Why Indian leaders fell so easily for adopting English instead of say Hindi as the main one? The answer lies in the slave mentality of those educated fools for whom everything British was superior.

Global Citizen

English is the language of the Global Citizen. It does not matter whether you are European, Japanese or Chinese, to be a Global Citizen you need to know English. Hence, it is best to adopt a 2-language system -- English and one's mother tongue and assimilate locally as well as globally. India is like a mini-Europe. Each state is like a mini European country. Hence, English works well in integrating people, education, science, technology, medicine etc. English also has a similar alphabet and grammer pattern like Indian languages. English is also the language of Internet, Programming and Technology. India needs to develop interesting software on language translation from English to local languages and vice-versa to make local and global integration robust.

Learn from Europe, Japan, and China

English is not a prerequisite for success in the global world. Look at Europe, Japan, and China - none of them adopted English in a hurry, still they are major players in the world economy !

English Vs Hindi
by Kanu Singh on Mar 20, 2013 09:29 PM

English is easier to write, many times sentences can be misinterpreted, mostly reading the alphabets of a word does not give unique pronunciation, so different places have different accents. So rule is try to pronounce a word in a way which majority of people can understand, otherwise most of the time you will hear back words like “Sorry, Pardon, Excuse me” from listeners.

Hindi is harder to write, takes longer to put lines at the top and all the signs for different sounds. Written words can be pronounced exactly the same way by different people, so not much chances for misunderstanding.

But in a fast paced world, English become the language of choice. You put half the effort in writing something and let the readers fill in the gaps of various sounds and meaning according to context.

Anyway having knowledge of more than one language is advantageous, specially if it gives you commercial and employability advantage and ability to understand the thoughts of a large number of people without an Interpreter.

Personally I prefer to write in English and talk in Hindi.

The english language is just a communication tool. We don't have to become english men by adopting their culture and customs along with learning the language. India as a political may not have existed before the britishers came. But the idea of bharat has existed for a very long long time. The leftists/secularists do not want to acknowledge it.
