be preeminent in emphasis , and and english may provide access to that knowledge that you may choose to seek. India isa very plural society where every state has its own language that ties to its century-old traditions, and english could be very helpful in translating that knowledge and preserving it in e-media. superficial mimicary is uterly ugly.
in chennai the 2nd language is english. i remember my english teacher used to say : if all the indian would try to talk in english only like u, English would leave our country seeing the degradation of their mother tongue

Learning english is good to use as a vehicle to work. But its bad thing to adopt some bad words which new speaking people are catching. alike sh---t, f----k... People are spoiling their own quality by frequent use of this without caring the real meaning of thise words. Be well speake but make sure good manners also.
when my father used to become angry he used to speak in english. Other uncles also used to do so. we children resolved that the english is the language of angry persons. my father was a lover of Bangla. when from a beach in Digha i wrote to him for the first time as 'Dear Baba' and starting the Postal address as Mr...,he was offended.
25 years back when i landed in Shillong, i saw every book is written in english, whlie i tried to read..i could not. Language was Khashi. Mac cauley wrote to his father that i shall make arrangement that indian will walk as indian but will talk in English. Betal of McCauley is still on our shoulder. Rediff/Google had made provision to write email in local language..do we make use of those Deshis ?!!
Only if State languages get promoted to national language status we can liberate India from English. But who are the people against it? HINDI COLONIALISTS

I have a middle class background. Brought up in one of those old Mumbaii chawls. Tamilian by birth, Marathi by inclination and Hindi by choice due to Hindi being national language. Whatever English baiters may say, English is a unifying language and is the bread and butter for a majority of people. I still love my Indian regional languages and intend to study all south indian languages after my retirement. I am equally at home reading Marathi, Hindi and English. Reading Gujarati literature is my next target. Our Indian English writers are rocking witness Amish Tripathi or Chetan Bhagat or Sanghvi etc. Indian English has come of age and we need to teach more and more children from vernacular language medium the English language to improve their career, prospects and standing in life and society.

Actually english is only useful to deal/communication with foreign people. If you use other than your land language then your body language will not match good way with the meaning of your words.
