No politician has ever been punished for taking bribe...
by Solomon on Apr 18, 2013 09:04 AM  | Hide replies

How many politicians have been punished for taking bribes? None. In spite of UPA I and UPA II being totally corrupt, not a single politician, the main bribe takers, has been punished. Has a Congressman ever been punished for taking bribe in India? Never. Every politician enters politics more or less a pauper, and within no time he becomes rich with properties, gold, high-end vehicles and what not spread all over the country. Politics also becomes a family business, father passing on the baton to son, son-in-law, daughter-in law, wife, daughter and in some cases even keeps! Rest assured now bribe giver will be punished and since he cannot open who took the bribe, no taker (read politician) will ever be punished! This is Indian politics for you!

Another idea

In addition to the measures suggested above, the Govt. should set up an constitutional body like CAG which would be responsible for maintaing asset records of higher level officials and politicians (MPs, MLAs) over their service tenure. It should be made compulsary to carry out such assessments (investigations) every three years. Also, each senior govt. official be made liable for report to this authority, every year, any asset bought valued Rs. one lakh or above, by the officer during a financial year. All the details provided by the official shoud be hosted on some public domain so that people are aware of their assets, growth in assets and file complain if some asset has not been reported. Also, registrars of land and buildings be called to compulsorily report any land or property deal by these officials/ politicians to this body. It is important that Registrars, Banks, Depository Service providers and this authority work in claose coordination. I am sure this idea can deal a body blow to consensual bibery.

legislation to punish bribe giver and taker
by rajat lahiry on Apr 18, 2013 08:42 AM

If my memory serves right,in one of his articles in TOI about two years back, Swaminathan Ankalesariya Aiyer had estimated that the Black Money stashed out side India is about $1.456 Trillion. This amount must have increased now. This kind on money will take care of all defense procurement,Interlinking of Rivers etc and still leave the Govt with sufficient money.
When the Govt is talking about punishing bribe takers & bribe givers, will the govt include black money also?
