Opening up of retail space for FDI will bring in more competition and bring down the huge profit the middle man enjoys now.Price of most of the agricultural products are increased by as much as 300-700% exploiting farmers aswel as consumers.

by individual on Sep 16, 2012 09:57 AM  | Hide replies

what i wanted to know or say, my conception is not being clear to think that there is already Mall or supermarket everywhere, in almost every locality, and its growing, what if there is foreign direct investment(FDI)? FDI will have to compete with mall or supermarket!
the reason of protest , what is being given that with FDI, our small investers ,like in our localiy, which r estimately over 20lakh will die but i am not understanding, r they not dying now for existing mall? for them actually, mall or FDI is standing same!

i really need to know that by what factor, they will be effected newly! any learned person can enlighten me!

investment directly into production in a country by a company located in another country either by buying a company in the target country or by expanding operations of an existing business in that country. Foreign direct investment is done for many reasons including to take advantage of cheaper wages in the country special investment privileges such as tax exemptions offered by the country as an incentive to gain tariff-free access to the markets of the country or the region. Foreign direct investment is in contrast to portfolio investment which is a passive investment in the securities of another country such
FDI refers to the net inflows of investment(inflow minus outflow) to acquire a lasting management interest (10 percent or more of voting stock) in an enterprise operating in an economy other than that of the investor.[3] It is the sum of equity capital other long-term capital and short-term capital as shown the balance of payments. It usually involves participation in management joint-venture transfer of technology and expertise. There are two types of FDI: inward foreign direct investment and outward foreign direct investment resulting in a net FDI inflow (positive or negative) and "stock of foreign direct investment" which is the cumulative number for a given period. Direct investment excludes investment through purchase of shares.

The govt hopes to push up growth from weak 5.6% to 6% as far as I understand - but I dont believe it. FDI is required for this country and it would have happened sooner or later. The glaring failure here is that - we need FDI in manufacturing , power sectors and most importantly infrastructure. The govt wants to develop India;s infrastructure and it is really necessary. The retail sector is already doing well and as you said we have too many options like BigBazaar etc. The govt took this step because of lobby - industrialists were pushing the govt to take this step. FDI in retail is not useful in my opinion and it will at most stop the rate decline. What we are hoping is to see that this will lead to the future steps of FDI in power and infrastructure.

its simple...when these companies will get free hand they will exploit the market & we will see all lot of revolution do doubt prices will b controlled by them...max. indian traders till now dont have that potential to compete them in retail chain so, we will find indians working for them & indian mall owners will struggle to stand in front of them...u can say they r really giant...who will convert india into a employees country....wt we see today mnc working in india have restriction....so there will b diffrence between restriction & free hand

Dude - capitalism does not work that way, you cannot sit back on reforms thinking about competition. In capitalism you should not be afraid afraid of competition. My reading is that Indian retail may adapt to the changing climate - it is the industrialists themselves who wanted the reforms. They were crying for it a long time

BJP & RAMDEV NEED LESSONS IN ECONOMICS
by badriprasad on Sep 16, 2012 09:30 AM

FDI in retail will bring in massive finances & generate employment which are most needed by INDIA particularly when our resources should focus on health care, education & infrastructure. By the way what is wrong in being sales persons? Stores will need managers, accountants, security personnel, storekeepers etc. When Indian companies expand abroad, we feel happy. Does not black money flow out. If it comes back we should be happy too. Ramdev also needs certain lessons in economics.

I always thought that the only leader with intelligence in the BJP was Jaitley but sadly he has proved me wrong by this stupid statement that it will make us a country of sales boys and girls. And what is wrong in that in giving employment to them if u see the number of people from the north east and north india in chennai and bangalore working as sales people in showrooms and malls here are they not entitled to find work in their own hometowns India needs employment opportunities in all spheres not just white collared jobs.

A person with a talent to do business on his own and who can earn 1 lac a month and give tax to govt and will spend his profits in india in property or any thing else. will have to work for this mnc for just quater of the money, anyways he will be happy as there will be no headace of filing returns manage sales tax and all the govt officials, but the profits will be not invested in india, they will go back to the Foreigner who will bring more FDI..

who's at loss. India or MNC's

They are business men's not social service centers.
Think hard before you support FDI, a small mistake now can make us full slaves to once again (partially still we are slaves of this money strong MNC's due to culprit politicians)
