I have lost respect for Shobha De after reading this comment. There are many respectable politicians.Be it ManoharParrikar,S.JaipalReddy,LKAdvani,AnandSharma,ArunJaitley,JairamRamesh,etc.Yes,80-85% of politicians are_thugs.But,there is still 10-15% good politicians.

You are partially right, say 3% or so because that is just the number of respectable politicians in India. What she meant is certainly that the 99% are 1st Grade professional criminals & 3td grade human beings. But I doubt if you oonda can count 10% respectable (not good) politicians. Most of our Politicians are certainly very good to their goons that does not make them good.

'I can't think of one politician worthy of respect '

it is really impossible to become one. Even lord Rama did find difficulty during his life time. We dont need a person to get respected for that we have Gandhiji. We need some one who can take India on a right path !!

our political critters are of the masked kind

Interesting do from Shobhaa De, at times deviating. Her assessment of our political critters is bang on target. With the arrival of Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP, we have a definite alternative now. AAP should be resolute and fearless when the noise from the hustings gets close. Shobhaa De could have been more verbose in this interview, thanks Shobhaa anyway, love your style anyday!

AAP is yet to test the waters of politics, the way kejriwal was looking into camera while jointing meter cabling in Delhi for publicity doesn't augur well for people having great expectations from him... however question here is she doesn't have respect for any politicians, perhaps b'cause politicians don't comeup to standards set by her ,we shud note that India has entered 65th year of its nation building with the leadership of politicians both at centre and states ,be it BJP OR BE IT CONG,be it sonia gandhi r MMS r regimes previous to them,it is these politicians only who have taken the nation forwards tangibly, they have thusfar managed this huge population to feed them n keep them at peace, who else can manage this ,what she is talking is without realising the grimness of the situations ,politicians be thrsr from BJP ,be them from cong r others , deserve respect particularly from the gen next as they only will be getting this enough built nation tomorrow fot them to carry forward with ease....her contention is definitely a blasphemy against the sacred democratic political system...

Shobha De's new book on Indian politician-sethji
by subhash phadkar on Nov 27, 2012 02:49 PM  | Hide replies

MotiLal Nehru, JawaharLal Nehru,B.K.Nehru,Indira Nehru-Gandhi,Rajeev Gandhi,Sanjay Gandhi,Rahul Gandhi,Priyanka Gandhi-Vadera.the list of Gandhi-Nehru dynasty continues. Why did we give up the Privy purse of Rajas and Maharaja's and Maharani's?In UK the Queen remains the Head of State, the succession law is well written, though there is no written constitution for England/UK.then there are occasional A.B.Bajpayee.I agree with Shobha De Priyanka will sweep the polls if she enters in to politics. The surname does not matter only the name Priyanka and close resemblance to Indira Gandhi.

In a democracy, how is it possible that 90% of people are holy cows but elected leaders are corrupt and not worthy?
