Fact is All of this nonsense is Islamic/Victorian practices that Indians incorporated after about 1200 AD
Original Indian Dharmic culture has very open broad minded views about sexuality and thus creates less sexually frustated societies
But who will tell those idiots in Hryana that many practices and values of what you claim as INDIAN Culture are ACTUALLY Islamic and Victorian dark age practices from which Indians need to evolve.
Due to economic liberalization and modernization more and more number of women are stepping out of their kitchen-life, coming out on road for professional or educational pursuance. The conservative wolves who get aroused even if a single square inch of skin is exposed are finding this as a chance for fulfilling their animal instinct. And these incidents are on high.
Obviously rape is more related to sexual perversion than cultural or progressive mindset and both sort of people can indulge in such crime.
But again, conservative thought add justification in rape incidents by putting the onus on the victim and western culture. This in-turn provide indirect support to the rapists.
Prevention is better than cure. Along with a few other factors, the increasing number of rapes can be related to increasing modernity and glamour in society too. Even western countries with one of best police and judiciary system have surprisingly high number rape incidents. But feminists and feminist media is turning a blind eye to this. WTF, just hang the rapist. Already there are many anti-men laws which are being misused by women in India.
The modern women and society should understand a basic rule - every action has equal and opposite reaction. It just so happens that the victim of this reaction is not the one who took wrong action (vulgar exposure in society), but some poor vulnerable girl/lady. So this "action" should be curbed first.
Its high time the modern women (feminists) ask themselves - don't they have brother/father/husband?
Its high time the indian parents teach their daughter too some discipline and to respect the men in society, and not to just go on exposure rampage. Why can't they respect the men or society and act/dress decently? If you think you can do whatever you want and then that "action" leads to a reaction of which unfortunately a poor vulnerable women become victim.

So why there very high number of rapes reported in so called liberalized and modern countries? 20% of american women have experience rape at least once, as per a survey!!!! so much for the liberalization and modernization.

nice article dhananjay.. Even Animal also knows thier security points. they dont go to insecured place. Then why these modern woman understand.. Today 31st...u can see so many drunked girls wondering with their bf on road after 12.00pm.

Such inhuman people think rape is like a game doing such inhuman and cruel acts. Recently in Mumbai, a father was raping his own daughter along with his son for many days. When the girl ran and her friends saw her, made complaint to police. This act shows that even a daughter is not safe at her own house. These people did not even give a second thought that they are raping their own blood...daughter and sister. What can we say about such things. Every single woman / girl should be strong be strong enough to fight back such acts. The government should declare death sentense for such acts or should strong laws for protecting girl, womens. There are so many girl/womens getting raped regularly in and around Delhi. I strongly support Death Sentence for such kinds of cruel acts...

Death sentences or stoning people to death is not going to reduce rape. You will have to create a police state where citizens are afraid to even step out. Do you want that? We have laws which can put rapists in jail for years together. Isn't that enough to satisfy your revenge instinct? Understand the problem is not the law but the way the investigation is managed. The police have to be more sensitive. I completely agree with the article on many points. Our consumer culture which objectifies women (and even men) is also largely responsible. We have such a complex problem which needs measures on many fronts - social, judicial and legal. Instead, we have people demanding death, castration and worse! Will that make women safer? Think about it. Unfortunately most of our newspapers and TV channels make a circus out of this whole incident to get more TRPs, and in the process suggest such crude and barbaric measures. Understand that many of these are spur of the moment crimes. Violent rapists do not carefully calculate the pros and cons of their actions before engaging in brutality. Let us try to become a more humane society instead of giving competition to other brutal regimes. I know people will turn back and say I do not understand this etc., but remember that all you can get out of hanging people will be a perverse sense of revenge. The problem will not go away with it.
