Definitely there isnt going to be a war involving India. India is now mature enough to tackle war monger countries in a peaceful way.
People often think, decisions made by PM and Def Min are their decisions. Their decisions not to waste enormous money on ammunition is not their own but decisions of some real super intelligent people behind them, like the ias, ifs and other backoffice intelligent heads. We are all some commonors just discussing whatever we feel without knowing/or having full facts. So people dont worry, India is treading along good path safely and steadily.
There is no denying debate is necessary on such important issues but Mr Sunil Dasgupta completely misses the point. Firstly,in the Indian context bureaucrats have the ears of their political masters or there is a nexus, they have imposed themselves to become the masters of the military. Therefore the military cannot express their opinion except in exceptional cases by which time it is too late, and the issue has become a problem. Secondly, if according to Mr Dasgupta, India is not going to fight tank battles why do they need ammunition? Then why have tanks in the first place? Why have aircraft or ships? If the Army Chief expresses there in no ammo for the tanks it is cause he is charged with the responsibility to guard against incursions. He has to have an army ready to fight if need be. Everyone knows the huge lead time needed to aquire weapons and ammo. If the General is not frank with his PM who will be frank? The bureaucrats? This is an absurd thesis which needs to be consigned to the bin.
While i agree that the civil-military conflict would do good to the country, it would be a laughable matter to have state of the art T-90 tanks in your armoury without ammunition. Have we lost our sensibiliuties to accept a situation like this. My salute to Gen VK Singh for bringing to light the facts, irrespective of the circumstances. Hope the govt wakes uo to the realities and takes remedial steps before it is too late. It is about time the beauracracy moves its backsides and wakes up before we suffer another Himalayan blunder.

unfortunately govt never wake up and one can guess on number of shocktherapy it needs to come out of slumber -
it was smashed ,defeated and dejected in 1962
it proven hostile to modern armoury while IPKF dealing with LTTE -as per Srilankan defence minister " A police man in Srilanka was more equipped than indian soliders"
it got a shock in Kargil first on lack of modern survilience system and thereafter lack of even Basic dress to fight under minus temperature..
in all occassion our soldiers defended our pride at cost of their live..but in return as a nation we never gave them prpoer tools to fight and can not ensure that lives our solidier remain protected like that of British or american counterparts.
For our leadership lives of civilian or solidiers doesn't matter much as they are busy with making money first and parking it thereafter.
Impression is that you are trying to shape the view by imposing yours on the civil society.
What we need is not just debate, but result should be set in motion.
We need head of Antony and culprit Tejender singh. Later, VK Singh, given 2 year extension of ground of standing up and speaking to these corrupt politicians.
We, as a citizen, now don't care about public domain or secret domain, or private domain or you name it.
