Civil Miltary Conflict

The writer is not an expert on defence matters. He doesn't know the difference between Air Defence as provided by the Air Force and Army's Air Defence provided by short range guns and missiles meant to defend the immediate boundary of the advancing Armoured and Infantry formations. The Army Chief was referring to the Army Air Defence which is dangerously obsolete (60's vintage) which the Pak and Chinese defence experts have known for decades now. So much for intellectual debate by half baked experts.

The Chiefs of the Armed Forces are required to write to the PM directly at regular intervals (Yes Directly).I find it laughable that a writer who is co-author with Stephen Cohen, doesnt understand that there is , was and always will be ample space for conventional battles between adversaries like India and Pakistan. When the first aicraft crosses the border or Naval vessel is sunk or an enemy tank regiment is hit, you mean pakistan would let go of its Nuclear Missiles. Hasn't Mr Dasgupta heard of India's stated nuclear policy of "No First Use" but "Unacceptable Retaliatory Strike" which will inflict very serious costs to the other country. (Btw Pakistan doesnt have a Nuclear Missile shield). Many more not so correct observations by the author.Hope to see a better evaluation of Army-Civil relations based on good Appreciation of India's long term Strategic Defence Doctrine.. I know most advanced military powers have one. Does India Have one ?? Food for thought for the Author.

The writer Sunil DasGupta has tried to balance the topic, there is no doubt our defence is well looked after but again & again the same question arise if the wall of building is not made of solid concrete & mixer of proper cement & iron & good foundation, how long that building will stand/ survive the wrath of nature, same way until & unless we make our country men strong how can our Military be strong,we as a citizen of this nation first has to get rid of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, the three basic needs Food,Shelter & clothing to all our countrymen then only we can say & build our Military & country strong & this is what has happened in China,Even though we have a continious threat on our boarders from China & pak but for certain period our defence Expenditure should be ware minimum & all our defence resources including manpower to be employed for removing iliteracy ,poverty & infrastructure,No import of armament from other country, everything to be produced in our country as our brains are second to none in the world, so our country needs overhaul right &patriotic people @ the helm with moral ethics welfare of the state & people first & everything after wards.
