Well written bidwai sir... corporates must first exhibit moral values and show charity, rather than indulge in crass commercialism.

Mr. Bidwai calls the supporters of F1 sleazeballs even while hanging out with shady ISI linked individuals involved in anti India events. He is a known Maoist who does not believe in capitalism or democracy as long as he and his maoist cohorts are the only ones expressing views.

I am not a huge fan of motorsport. I do not get the whole idea of driving fast in circles and wasting all the gas. But it is free will. If people are willing to spend their own cash on this spectacle and government is not in any way involved, who are we the express our judgement.

Pointless article
by yogeesh sharma on Nov 08, 2011 08:27 PM  | Hide replies

Mr. Bidwai, the only valid argument against F1 that one can make is the huge amounts of fuel burnt. But can you name any "sport" in which a "sportsperson" loses 3-4 kg weight in 90 minutes. And to say that there is no concentration involved in driving a car at 200 km/hour, you have got to be nuts. And do you not see the skimpily clad girls who dance around when Sachin Tendulkar hits a boundary for the Mumbai Indians.

This article has been conceived and written just for the sake of opposition. You could have just written against capitalism and still have made sense but you mixed it up with a topic you don't know sh*t about.

Seriously you guys at Rediff need to find people who know what they are writing about!!

If people get a job and then marry and have children, the world will be better off. You cannot be irresponsible and then blame everyone else.

Does he know the Sport?

Hello Mr Bidwai, I am not sure if you started writing articles straight from the village!! If you have had any knowledge of Motor Sports, what it takes to sit in a machine which travels 300 km/ph, if you knew anything about G-force, or if you had known what it takes sit inside the car at 55 celcius for more than 2 hrs, you wouldnt have written this article. Atleast you wouldnt have compared this sport to Cricket. It is because of people like you who gets previllage to write articles and publish on main stream websites (not sure if you paid get this published) India is still considered a Third World country atleast by their thoughts. If you read my comment and still continue to wrtite articles, SHAME ON YOU!

Buddy, why do you become so emotional. Do you think if not for this sport, would that money would be directed to feed the poor. 'Just' conducting F1 we take one step towards developed. Tell me which country does not have poor ppl? If everyone starts thinking that poor should be fed before doing anything else, there would'nt have been any inventions or discovery.

Whats the point , Mr Bidwai ?
by sunil nair on Nov 08, 2011 07:48 PM  | Hide replies

What exactly is the author trying to say ? That involvement of cutting edge technology makes a sport become a non-sport ? Does he know the amount of difference racquet technology has made in tennis where you cannot compete with the older wooden racquets against the newer graphite and synthetic ones .
Is he saying F1 is not a sport because Ecclestone is a dictator and Mosley is sleazy ? Then we shouldn't follow football after the recent FIFA bribery scandal involving a vice president , nor should we follow cricket in India run by the BCCI .
Is he saying the organisers are wasting money ? They are a private group and if they want to spend their money , they can do it in any legal way they like . Obviously , they have found a way to obtain a profit despite putting in so much money . Should we grudge that ?
Is he saying F1 is only for the rich ? I'm middle class , and I enjoy following it . If the organisers use the profits from the race to sponsor racers in India , as they have said they will , is that bad ?
I agree that the races use up a lot of petrol and isn't good for the environment ; but F1 keeps trying to reduce fuel expenditure to avoid wastage .
The last section is a typical diffuse communist rant , where capitalism is blamed for everything . Capitalism isn't perfect and needs curbs but the solution is not to prevent anybody who works hard from earning money .

working hard and earning money does not entitle any one to do what ever one one wishes to do. let government take into consideration inflation and declare Rs.100/- as poverty line and lets see how rich are we.

Actually , if you work hard and earn money , you are entitled to spend that money in any legal way you want . That's part of our rights . If you read what I wrote earlier , I never said they could do anything they wanted .
What does the cut off line for poverty have to do with this article or my comment on it ?

Sunil...support your views entirely. We have a lot of pseudo socialist who find making money or spending ones hard earned legal money a crime. Only money makes money. Slogans do not make money or jobs. Money makes jobs and hence better life for every one.Jealousy, laziness etc make armchair socialists.

Well Said and I truly support your view.

In India for every single issue there would be a few who would grudge. Its their job and their only way to come to limelight.

I am also a middle class person. I too love following F1 and would encourage private enterprises to promote sports. Its only the private companies who can bring our nation into the forefront of the sporting world.

Today its F1 tomorrow it could be Athletics, Basketball, Table Tennis, Badminton etc etc. In no country across the globe, government puts in 100%. It has always been a public private partnership.

Instead of grudging and bickering over, we should encourage private companies to contribute more towards ALL forms of sports.

BTW the writer of this article is delusional and has been suffering from psychological deficiencies for last two years.
