Tallest Leader? My Foot!!!
by Rex Mathew on May 13, 2011 06:48 PM  | Hide replies

As a CM, VS has been an absolute disaster. The state's development, infrastructure, and overall governance were neglected, while he charged after his per causes. More like Don Quixote.

It would have been nice if Mr. Bhadrakumar also mentioned the most notable achievements of his 'tallest leader':

1. Munnar land grab: He quietly killed the investigation when he realized that the CPM and CPI have the most encroachment in that area. He said the Tatas have encroached some 17,000 hectares. He couldn't prove that even a single acre was encroached by the Tatas.

2. Sex Scandals: What happened to his promise to send all sexual offenders to prison? He conveniently forgot the issue and suddenly woke up a few months before the election. Probably sex crimes only went up during his time.

3. Smart City Project: He delayed it by 4.5 years. Even he didn't know why he was opposing the original contract signed by the Congress.

Mr. Bhadrakumar also mocks at Rahul Gandhi. Most of the young Congress leaders suggested by him won the election. One of the so called Amul babies - Mr Eden, 27, who is the NSUI national president - won with the second biggest margin in the state.

I don't know about you Mr. Bhadrakumar, but we would prefer young, realistic leaders than ineffective, septuagenarian leaders like VS who foul mouth their opponents and mock at women.

I am surprised that you ever made it to the IFS. Were you posted in Cuba ever since? Haven't you seen the world, my friend?

To all:

I am no Congressman and I agree that all Congress leaders are corrupt, communal opportunists. The KC and IUML leaders are even worse.

If these two groups are the only choices, I would have preferred VS.

That doesn't mean we should give blind praise to VS or ignore his short comings. It says a lot about the pathetic state of politics in Kerala that VS is getting so much praise - for doing next to nothing.

One commentator said he cried after weeing endosulfan victims. Why is that he didn't cry during the first 4.5 years as CM and suddenly remembered all the victims since January this year?

The candidates promoted by Rahul was lost in manyplaces, only Heby and Jayalakshmi won.
Rahul Gandhi is not such a great man; remember his $2 mn encounter with FBI in Boston airport and Brajesh Misra spoke to top US authorities to enable Rahul Gandhi and his girlfriend to get away.
Let us don’t have emotions just because of Royal family.
comme on, let us get out of old dynasty!!!

VS had limitations since he had opposition from his own party itself. Anyway he could make a wave and also a thought among the people. We can see in the next five years how many small girls will have to spoil their life due to jackals in the ministry. VS alone cannot do anything. If the party was with him he could have achieved more. His thoughts were in the right direction.

the fact that the Communist party nearly made it to a consecutive term in office is solely because of Achutanandan. For every point raised by Rex above, there will at least twice the number of points against the Congress. The fact that the UDF barely made it by tying up with the rabid Communal parties of Muslim League and Kerala Congress says it all.....Secularism has been given the short shrift in Congress and the uDF will cause immense harm to the secular fabric of Kerala...

It is a loss for Kerala, in short. Kudos to VS for putting up a spirited fight. It is high time the State Committee, CPM Politbureau and the official faction understand that they are also comprised of personalities.

If this 86 yrs old is the best leader of CPM it is better to dismantle the party. He is the most arrogant and inefficient person. Did nothing in Kerala in last 5 yrs. Only he can deliver exciting speeches to his favorites, the CITU head load workers. In corruption front also he is no better, in next six months plenty to come out, one of his nephews was allotted land in for just being an ex soldier, his son Aurn Kumar is corrupt to the core. The reason for the wafer thin majority of the UDF is for the extremely bad situation at the center. The voters of Kerala seems the most thoughtful and intelligent. It seems that they are between the devil and the sea, on one side there is non performing CPM and on the other side, the corrupt congress. The third- BJP is seen nowhere. On thing is guarantee, the life of OOmman Chandi for the coming yrs is not going to be easy, the political business community of IUML and Kerala Congress will bargain to the maximum and big scams are guaranteed. The life of government employees will be very easy, every alternate day, there will be a strike or a harthal, or a road block against any travelling minister. Life of small timers like hawkers and small shop owners going to be very tough, no earning for about 4-6 days a month for strikes. Any way everyone will be happy to see the wily old fox go, by next election he will be in the 90s and also the internal politics will sideline him.

VS used Ezhava Communalism and Anti-Muslim Card Blatantly
by outspoken on May 13, 2011 06:33 PM  | Hide replies

Achutanandan Govt was a non-performing asset and was an irritant for all in CPM top brass. He stayed mainly in the on account of open fights between him and state party state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan who is embrolied in a Cooruption scandfal called Lavlin under CBI probe.

With nothing great to show in the score card except bloated or broken promises in 4 and half years and a cheerful opposition by Congress led UDF winning most elerctions Achutanandan was dommed to defeat himself.

In the last 6 months, VS changed tack and communal card but disguising it as people's issues like endo Sulfan pestcide and war agaainst corruption and mafia.

While fighting corruption he was making all state machinery available for the corruption and bribery of own son and the latest is a free gift of land to one of his nephews.

VS gained by targeting Nair leader R. Balakrishnan Pillai and getting him sentenced for one year jail term when the election was announced. With that Achutannadan fuelled his own community's pride and veered their support around him.

By targeting Muslim leader PK Kunhalikutty's sex scandal case thru new revelations and re-investigations he tried to don the anti-Muslim face to evoke Hindu sympathy.

Using some central Govt schemes like Rs 2 per Kg rice he again pretended as a pro poor warrior.

So mixing welfare card and blatant communalism and open blackmail of political opponents Achutanandan improved his tally but failed to grab power and UD

Amool baby's performance
by sun on May 13, 2011 06:32 PM  | Hide replies

He performed in Kerela and CPM got 10 more seats than Khangress.. He performed in TN and dreamed of making a govt in TN independently but alas scores only 7 seats. Lost in puducherry. Even in WB, they scored 31 out of 62 seats while TMC scores 182 out of 220 seats, much better than its alliance partner. Except Assam, where i don think Amul baby went, rest all places he took his bad omen to make khangress get poor performance.

Religion-based voting...that is why VS could not get majority
by PERINCHERI KRISHNA KUMAR on May 13, 2011 06:29 PM  | Hide replies

VS lost because in Malappuram, Muslims voted for Muslim League/Congress and in Kottayyam, the Christians voted for UDF.
It shows that good governance is NOT a priority for minorities. They are still living in the 'purdah' of religious fundamentalism.

This is the same old tactits of CPM and BJP. If somebody vote for them they are intelligent and others all fools or fundementalist. people in malappuram have a better sense that VS is just an actor only. He has done nothing only talks too much. Pinaray is much better and matured politician than VS.
