ALL INDIAN REACTORS ARE SAFE
by mukesh on Mar 19, 2011 12:14 AM  | Hide replies

we are making safe and safer reactors, there is nothing to panic about radioactive release. from the earth crust everybody is getting around 0.08micro sivert per hour of radiation dose continuously. problem occurs when dose limit crosses the thrush hold limit, to limit radioactive release to environment safety systems are provided.
More over Indian government is spending 2/3 of the reactor construction cost on redundant SAFETY SYSTEMS. Every Nuclear power plant is having emergency procedure to tackle such conditions.

to be honest we and our scientists included are not even 10 % of Japnese. If they couldn't handle it do you think we can??? ( It may sound racist but a fact is a fact)

What is the alternative?
by Jai Babu on Mar 18, 2011 11:51 AM  | Hide replies

The author is an ALARMIST! Every Technology has pro & cons, France gets more than three-fourths of its electricity from nuclear reactors. France's power consumption is almost twice as much as that of India. India's growing energy needs can be met only by a judicious mixed Nuclear, Solar & Wind Energy initiative. Thermal power is highly polluting being COAL dependent and Hydro Electric projects cause immense dams & Reservoirs to be built and lead to huge displacement of people, submergence of land and Environmental impacts.

by Narendra Modi on Mar 18, 2011 08:20 AM  | Hide replies

Indias Atomic Installations are not in sesmic zone.. that makes Probabality of India coming under fire only about 1% that of Japan..

If u take probabality into account your heart may not be beating the next second is more than nuclear meltdown in India...due to earthquake..

the one in Narora (UP) comes in seismic zone, so it is in risk. And as rightly said by vivek, meltdown is not jst caused by earthquakes. Hunger for modernisation is taking its toll

It can happen to India too
by kv raghuram on Mar 18, 2011 08:15 AM

Earthquake and tsunami which triggered worst Nuclear disaster in Japan, can happen in India, unless extremely innovative and radical measures are carried out in designing the country's Nuclear generation facilities.

Overheating and excessive radiation prospects are routinely seen in Tarapur and Kalpakam Nuclear plants, despite government's unsuccessful concealment of the fact.

So, let us be more careful and prudent in this regard. By merely saying that Indian Nuclear plants are safe, can not shoo away the imminent threat.

On Day 1 (March 12), they first dismissed it as a minor accident, which would be brought quickly under control by Japan's highly advanced nuclear industry.

On Day 2, when there was an explosion in Reactor 1 at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, which had been starved of coolant water, they called it "a purely chemical reaction and not

The Prime Minister is dangerously IDIOT!
by Gautam nil on Mar 18, 2011 07:04 AM  | Hide replies

The Prime Minister is a chosen IDIOT who is totally incapable of assessment of implications of any problem to come forward with a right solution. He is totally carried away by some wrong suggestions by the stooges who take undue advantages of the P.M..'s IDIOCY as number of Government's decisions go to prove negative against the welfare of the large number of population!
Sonia Gandhi has deliberately brought puppets as the PRESIDENT and PRIME MINISTER to ensure that she goes scot free under any circumstances!
I am really at loss to understand how such people get multiple degrees like Ph.D., as we had seen how bad was the Economic policies of the P.M., like the one of LIBERLISATION, etc.,
Perhaps, the merits of Universities who accord such Degrees will have to be thoroughly verified!
This PM and Sonia Gandhi have taken the country back by at least one century, if not more!

Indian should wakeup to reality. And accept that...Many Honeymoon's are over or about to over.
-> India's honeymoon with US
-> MMS's honeymoon with Bush/Obama
-> Congress's honeymoon with SP and RLD.

Sensible way to go forward is....
- Go Solar.
- Reduce the Population. It will also reduce the need for power.
- Go for wind power
- Go for Hydro power

I do not want to loose a single countrymen because of such ugly nuclear radiations.

I have read the news regarding the Indian nuclear reactors Dr Manmohan singh requested a report and study about our own Nuclear Reactors

The experts came back saying Japnese reactor where accident occured uses a hot water boiled type(Iam no expert) only Kalpakam in India uses such type ,all others have different types or modes to extract Nuclear Energy I have read this in Indian media too

They have also submitted on waht seismic zones the indian reactors lie (most on a 4 scale)

Having said that ,it does not hurt to upgrade safety and standrad procedures to cover all scenarios

Rediff at times seem to spit too much info or sometimes a bit of masala with some pictures and write up so one needs to use judgement as well when reading stuff here

sometime i wonder at the extent of dumbness people can go to once sagain you are taking word of the prime minister who after goofing up BIG time is so many issue says "he was told so". Please understand a nuclear catatrophe will be far worse than a PJ Thomas or CWG. so time for us INDIANS to wake up & start seeing MMS as what he "A BIG WOLF" in the garb of sheep given to him by indian media who are still ready to lick boots of anybody who is studied in UK.
