Controversies and Allegations

He represented the bankrupt American energy giant Enron, as a senior lawyer in India, and is again set to revive its Dhabol power project.[9][10]
He resigned on 10 July 1992 from the Minister position owning moral responsibility for investing in Fairgrowth, a company allegedly involved in securities scam.[11]
In 1997, he announced a controversial Voluntary Disclosure of Income Scheme (VDIS) which granted income-tax defaulters indefinite immunity from prosecution under the Foreign Exchange Regulation Act, 1973, the Income Tax Act, 1961, the Wealth Tax Act, 1957, and the Companies Act, 1956 in exchange for self-valuation and disclosure of income and assets.[12] The Comptroller and Auditor General of India condemned the scheme in his report as abusive and a fraud on the genuine taxpayers of the country.[13]
It should be noted that Chidambaram also represented the controversial British mining conglomerate Vedanta Resources in the Mumbai High Court until 2003 when he became the finance minister of India. He was also a member of the board of directors of that company.[14]
In August 2006, President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam gave permission to enquire into the allegations that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Finance Minister P. Chidambaram had been holding office of profit at the time of elections. It has been alleged that they both had been the board members of Rajiv Gandhi Trust Foundation. Chidambaram's election with the blessing of the Italian Queen
by Indian culture on Jun 14, 2011 10:21 PM  | Hide replies

Chidambaram's rival candidate Mr.Rajakannappan of AIADMK was leading the election until the last round of counting in 2009 lok sabha polls. After the last round, PC was declared elected. It is well known to the people in Tamil Nadu that a phone call went from Delhi to the counting centre in Sivaganga and that made the difference. Call it the Navin Chawla effect. All this with the blessing of the Italian Queen of Congress Party

Politicising Election Commisioners - Congress Strategy
by Indian culture on Jun 14, 2011 10:15 PM  | Hide replies

Politicising Election Commissioners is a Congress Strategy to win elections in their favour. This is a great threat to free and fair elections. Former CEC TN Seshan joined Congress Party post retirement, Former Election Commissioner M S Gill joined Congress post-retirement and is now enjoying his life as a Union Minister for the "services" to the Italian Queen during the various elections held during his tenure. The grapevine is that Former CEC Navin Chawla's name is going to the next Governor of Tamil Nadu as the present Governor retires this month. His service was instrumental for Congress getting 206 seats in 2009 Lok Sabha elections against just 140 seats in 2004 lok sabha elections (Congress crossing 200 mark in lok sabha after a gap of 20 years. Election Commissioners must be banned from joining political party or occupying office of profit even after retirement. Otherwise, there won't be an apolitical set up in the Election Commission.

Maybe she won by fraud. A rumour is that one of the Election Commissioner is a distant relative to her, and who is said to have sworn/challenged to make sure DMK does not win the election. You never know what her community is capable of. See how Swamy cheated the entire country and the Supreme Court, as if A.RAJA swindled 1.76 LAKHS CRORE(!?). Now, A.RAJA is in jail for what, a 200 crore allegation. Where is that Swamy now? Swamy is shut, and hiding, and cannot wag a finger against anybody in any other political party, or against any business leaders, if he truly believed 1.76 LAKHS CRORE was looted/lost. If he was sincere, he should go after everybody involved, but, his aim was to favor Jayalalitha before the election, by accusing DMK/RAJA of 1.76 LAKHS CRORE, so people will be carried away by sensational figures. Now, that his trick worked, he does not really care whether there was any actual loss/loot of 1.76 LAKSH CRORE or whether anybody looted 1.76 LAKHS CRORE or not.

So Swamy knows so much about this 2G Scam, that he brought it to the public attention and the Supreme Court attention, but, could not name anybody in Congress, BJP or any Banya/Business leader, except A.RAJA and DMK politicians!

Appreciate how dexterously she is handling MMS through remote control.
Some few lakh crores is not a big issue ,chidu can always make up by expanding the tax dragnet!!
Not a big fee for her best remote controlled achievement, the record breaking inflation rate!!

"Her statement is gross contempt of court," retaliated the Home Minister, but the Aam Aadmi views these courts with contempt! These so called courts are meant to protect usurpers & traitors. Now let these political crooks answer why the judiciary should not be brought under the purview of Lokhpal bill!
