Cunning Congress
by Lucky B on Jan 30, 2011 04:20 AM

Congress know that due to tons of scam they are going to election very heavily this time.
So they are creating terror environment by implecating innocents from all religion.

As per my estimate we will see Marshal-law in year 2014.

Sorry Mr. Ramachandra Guha
by G Venkatram on Jan 28, 2011 07:59 AM  | Hide replies

I am disappointed to see good writers and thinkers like Ramachandra Guha literally misleading the people by saying that Hindu Right wants to create a Hindu Pakistan and that Islamic Terror is from across the Border. Further, he separates the Kashmir problem from Islamic Intolerance and 'holy war'. I don't think people of India are blind to believe that. We know that India is a Country where 5000 years of cultural achievement and prosperity prevailed. We know that at the time of our ancient civilization, we did not even have an army (I am referring to the amazing discoveries made in Indus Valley Civilisation that they had no army and no weapons). Bharat was a peaceful, progressive and 'inclusive' state then. If Mr. Ramachandra Guha wants us to believe that there are serious problems today due to religious bigotry and extremism, is it not obviously clear that it is only because of certain later developments like India loosing its real cultural identity, mis interpretation of the word secularism which was actually used in the western countries for separating the Church from the State i.e. Government. The people who led India immediately after Independence committed a major blunder, the effect of which will remain for ages to come. They have made the people of India to believe that India's Cultural Greatness begins from 1947. The solution for all this lies in returning back to India's Cultural root without compromising in Modernity. All Countries across the world have done

All the Countries across the world, immediately after Independence, return to the fold of their old Culture and Tradition from which they were disconnected due to imperial rule. However, disappointingly, India due to some Leaders who lacked foresight or were thoroughly westernized, made us to believe that India's culture is not worth re-inventing. Is it not the fact that People who reject the Indian Cultural Greatness should be considered as 'aliens' to the Country. Whether it may be Muslims, Christians etc etc, they would be respected and Honored to the extent they respect and honor the land of Bharat and its glorious past. I am completely at loss to see Mr. Guha lament on symptoms rather than the problem itself. The problem is that, India greatfully accomodated even those who reject its cultural greatness. And people who propose this cultural greatness, which is a fact, are being bundled as RIGHT WING extremists. What a sorrowful state India is in. Now, People of India can think and understand why and how India lost peace, prosperity and 'inclusiveness'. Let us not be misguided by the so-called intellectuals.

The author is wrong!

A Gandhi gets created every 100 years and an Ambedkar gets created every 500 years. Also, India needed Ambedkar more than Gandhi. On the other hand, Pakistan needed Gandhi more than anybody else. Remember, Ambedkar is good for India and Gandhi is good for Pakistan.

Beg to differ - Gandhi not created comes along once in 1000 years, Ambedkar himself would have said that.

The list contains names of "Jawaharlal Nehru, B R Ambedkar". Is not it a joke...one responsible for J&K, 1962 fiasco and other great quota policy.

Please look at the bigger picture. Just because of one of their decisions did not give result, doesn't mean that all they did was wrong. Also, it's easy to look back after 60 years and critique without knowing the requirements and compulsions at that time.

Indian democracy in crisis
by PRAMESWARN RADHAKRISHNAN on Jan 27, 2011 09:53 AM

Why? The Congress has ruled this country for nearly 55 years since independence and has subverted all the institutions from the President of the country to Panchayat President. Not a single institution is left unattached to hold the Congress in-fighting nethas together and has become a vicious circle that no scame of any monumental propotion will be able to break this circle. See the arrogant answer of the Finance Minister on getting the lootted black money back from Swiss and other foreign accounts. It is an insult to the intelligence of the country but the congress has virtually bought all the legal luminaries to help them and fool us, and the honest few left in the system will be killed, as has happened for a collector in Nasik. What a shame. Only God can save this country from these thugs.

institutions weakened

The main danger to indian democracy is the weakening of the institutions by the UPA govt starting from president, VP, PM CVC, CBI, Election commission etc. etc.

It has already reached a situation like emergency period. Time has come to throw this govt. by a popular movement. It should be a lesson to any future govt. that people cannot afford this type of governance for long.

Indian democracy is surviving only because of its middle class
by ashutosh gupta on Jan 27, 2011 04:55 AM  | Hide replies

Its only middle class which is making country move in spite of severe problems. As such the whole system has collapsed but then there are stalwarts within these systems who because of their values are making the system move.
Such stalwarts can be found in indian administration especially in IAS & IPS (also in provincial services), Indian army, teaching community and a few corporates like Tatas. They all come from Middle class barring corporates and they certainly are few in numbers.
the indian middle class is very competitive and a few among them are able to move out of country and perform well over there and produce a good name for country. Those who remain in India are the biggest asset of country be they in form of Engineers, Doctors or any other professional services.
This country has been sold by politicians who have no ideology as correctly pointed out by Guha. The country is running in the name and faith of God because people have only fear of God. And if in spite of these rot it is still surviving, then it is certainly because of indian middle class

I agree. They may be at fault for not participating in the only available democratic process of voting. But they are the ones still hanging on to the basic values and tradition/culture, working hard to be a responsible parent, bringing up their kids.
