Agreed Mr.Patrick!

I completely agree with the author when he says that Indians are more at peace with themselves than any other race. The reason for this eternal bliss is because of the following:
1. An Indian does not bother when his neighbor is terrorising his wife.
2.He does not bother when there is a fire next door.
3.He does not care when when young women are fondled and teased by rowdy elements in public place.
4.He eats almost anything as long as headoes not have to work for it.
5.He has the uncanny habit of tolerating atrocities heaped on him the governing authorities. A true Gandhian ability!
6.He can tolerate the rape and murder of his own and continue living normally.
7.He can spit, urinate & shit anywhere and everywhere as he wishes.
8. He uses swear words with every sentence he speaks. An example of true democracy and freedom of speech.
9. He can drive through signals at break neck speeds, go on the one way without a bother, even kill people and for all this he does not even need a license. One hundred ruppee note is all that it takes!
10.If his employer asks him to improve and work all he has to do is file a complaint with the police for harassment.
11.He can buy a degree( Engg,MBBS, etc) for a few thousands rather than earn it over 16 years!
I can think of many such things that contribute to our happiness. Please think.

Hey i think the topics on which is of a human nature. Do you want to say that, People in france or canada don't fear of a person or rowdy or someone who is stronger.Secondly i also you did'nt even rided a bicycle on the indian road so your imagination of the indian roads are totally like false. Biggest thing of all, If you visit anyother country if you are from some country thats other than US then you would be awarded with all kinds of disrespect. But in India if you are form any other country you are given respect and hospitality would be at the best. Its not that commenting on some of the half cooked books by some strangers is not actualy right. For that too you should thank india that you can talk anything about it being an indian. First live a life of an indian and then talk about india..

Agreed with your views though it is hard to swallow.

I love my nation and a person who really loves the nation would agree that these problem exist and try to change atleast himself.

I hope you are not one who has settled abroad and just typing these things from UK/US etc.

Aiser,

How long would we please ourselves with these rosy things?

What love are you talking of?

Smile?

Go out on a busy road on Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore...you will see "love" and "smile"!

People in our country are unhappy, they have many issues and for most of these we ourselves are responsible.

Statues of Dr Kalam ,VS Achuthanandan,& Subramanian S
by Alice Janho on Feb 10, 2011 12:24 PM  | Hide replies

Statues of leaders honest and patriotic who unearthed the beiggest scam India has ever known ,who made a difference to the country missile technology and who are honest sincere non corrupt should be erected all over India replacing the old dead and gone ones or atleast a syllabus in schools on Vajpayee,Dr kalam ,VS and Swamy for students to learn that corruption is not the only way to live.A example is to have Subramanian swamy for President of India and new faces with can do attitude honest daring with oratory skills for PM ,All above 60 years should be retired and all criminals with cases pending in court should be out of office. For India to turn out like this most corrupt country is a major flaw in leaderhip and pretence not knowing and keeping quiet a bigger offence. The opposition should try to bring in new faces with proven abilities both in country and foreign relations especially with China and US.Bad governance ,bad economic policies have made India what it is today.India should have leaders born in India patriotic who love their country instead of hiding behind a foreign lady scared to even speak their mind. One man can change the world so can One True Indian.Hereafter Dr Kalam should be known as father of Nation, and change in political reform has to come soon or all is lost.

Stunning perspective
by Devdutt Nayak on Feb 10, 2011 11:42 AM

"Again, you can look at Mayawati's huge stone cultural park. You can say...well, it looks bad, that she chopped down so many trees for it or why should she build so many elephants or why did she need to put up all those statutes of herself, Dr Ambedkar, Gautam Buddha and Kanshi Ram... why did she need to do these?

But yet to people who come from a disadvantaged community, it has very important representative value. You can see that in a way people speak about it.

It may horrify the elite, but it may not horrify people who come from a completely different background."

A reasonably good explanation of the motivation. Think of it, in rural India, where the English media, like internet and Rediff and Barkha Dutt dont reach, there is so much casteism.

UP brahmins all over the world always talk about others being of XYZ caste in daily conversations.

Pandey. Sharma, Varma, Mishra, Dubey, Rai, Vedis, Pathis.

All of them have comments like:
But he is a so-and-so brahmin (multiple divisions among brahmins!), he is a low caste, he is a SC ST idiot, and so on.
If an unexpected caste person does well, they are jealous or suspect bribery.
Or outright denial.

Even Gujjus.

I am talking of educated middle / upper-middle class people.

I used to also, till I went to college, where I saw non-Brahmins think better than me.

This is a new perspective, given our complete ignorance of rural India.
