In a country of Mayawati Sharad pawar Raju Raja karuna and Jayalalitha; these are bound to happen. There never was/is/will be any corporal punishment for any of these looters - even if it happens - their wards and relati8ves would be just fantastic. media will talk only for a week and that's it. They are not US press who ensures that Mrdoff is in jail for 95 years. Thyese scoroundels just like raju would be out in 2 years time by brbing CBI/Judges and scaring/killing anyone opposing. That's it - end of story. We would continue to bask ourselves with Tendulkar's century of century

Politicians have no role for this mishap. It is the greed of marwari business men, who don't want to spend money on safety and take pride in flouting rules

You have missed out the bigger names: those who have distorted India's political culture beyond repair. Lalu, Mulayam, Diggi, Arjun Singh are foremost. They have effectively germinated the only political tactic they know of: minority appeasement and caste based reservations. Today, the entire energy of the political class is spent towards minority appeasement and caste cards, there is no time (and importance) of good governance.

Kolkata hospital fire

It isn't just politicians or hospital management or government-after all, they are also part of the same society that we are part of and carry its dna.
These things will not change by fixing blame on everything external. The common man who often is portrayed as the innocent victim isn't so at all. Everyone of us are negligent in our own way. Not all the negligence causes catastrophic events like this but that doesn't make us any better, only lucky. From violation of road rules to corruption to scant disregard for public hygiene, the list is endless. Real change will happen only when we stop blaming others for every bad thing that happens and change ourselves to become exemplary citizens.

Nothing short of a gencide
by Pide Piper on Dec 09, 2011 11:14 PM  | Hide replies

I cannot call this anything short of a genocide.

Even Paki jehadis would have been proud to kill hapless innocents with such efficacy.

The hospital administrators should not be given anything less than life-term in prison. Had this happened in a developed country, the health minister, city mayor, state governor would have resigned by now. But this is India, which loves to call itself a superpower and behaves like a super-rat. Only sustained public agitation can ensure that (at least) the hospital administrators are awarded proper punishment to this devlish crime.

Hang the admistrators and owners at the nearest lamp post but what I say is dont stop there, please also hang the police officials, fire depart officials, municipal officials and medical deptt officials who looked the other way with such irrigularities happening, sure they would have got their packets to do so.

Please also shame the employees who ran away leaving the patients to die.

Since this morning the police commisioner has got only one thing to say..... we were not late when they were infact and that we had pointed out for irregularity, does their responsibility ends there????

No charges on govt official?
by S P on Dec 09, 2011 11:13 PM  | Hide replies

Govt officials who are responsible for inspections and safety of public places should also be included, how they cleared inspection certificates? Usually these official don't know what is safety measures and clears certificate without inspection, have under the table deal. Don't held responsible to hospital management alone. This is result of corruption and carelessness from govt too.

Nope, I would held the marwari hospital management for this mishap. They must have to security person not to allow the outsiders to start rescue operation. Govt department has issued warning in July, hospital management committed to act on that but didn't

Ordinary people to blame for the Incident!!
by Naveen Shetty on Dec 09, 2011 11:04 PM

We Indians tend to ignore and put all laws, rules and regulations to dust bin when it comes to implementation. This is happening in small villages, towns and big cities where all laws are flouted and they get away simply because they are lucky and they can cover up their act by bribing the officials. And the same people raise the slogans against corruption. Corruption will stop the day Indians start respecting rules, regulations and laws of the land.
