Many believe taht the problem of Maoism is economic and deprived tribals must be helped with economic developments to counter this menace.
nothing can be further from truth. The ring leaders are all middle class (upper cast) communists who have a manifesto, a clear cut ideology that seek to replace the GOI with their brand of government. They want to raise red flag over red fort. Is it possible for the poor tribals to buy sophisticated weapons and land mines and conduct successful killing missions against the state troopers?
Many fake intelligent creatures are writing sympathetic words towards the MAO servants right in this site. I hope the GOI treat these anti national sympathisers just the way it treats the Naxals.

Another intersting thing is that only poor people are killed by Maoists. One never hears of top politicians, industrialists etc. falling prey.

air power vs citizens
by sushil chadha on May 27, 2010 08:33 PM  | Hide replies

Nothing could be more ludicrous than the suggestion regarding the usage of air power against the Maoists The demand is a reflection of a naive but jingoistic perception that unlimited use of military power is a panacea in a military imbrogolio . That the advocate is a military officer is all the more surprising for such a approach could perhaps be excused for a layman but not a seasoned officer . Hawks escalate conflicts
What will air power achieve and how will it be carried out ? is carpet bombing being advocated ?Does he understand the implIcations of this? We have to see the collateral damage of air strikes in Aghanistan to see the foolishness of this proposal. Air power with limited use of helicopters as gunships ? In jungles of Dantewada common citizens will be interpresed with the naxals, indiscriminate killings will be there? Using air power for evacuations of casualities ? By all means but what political consequences if a helicopter goes down{ Remember movie "black hawk down')?
The worst insurgency the country has faced was in Punjab . It was primarily a police operation which controlled, the Naxalbari movement in 1970 was put down by police / army what is the difference now so that unlimited use of force is required ?
The German General Claustewiz had said that "War is a extension of state policy by other means " A decalaration of war against its own citizens as being advocated should be a last resort when state has

First we should try to take finalities of the author who advocate limited air strikes on these armed thugs, who are politely called moists/naxal.With the kind of impunity they are murdering innocent citizens, latest being attacking jnaneswari express at kharagpur, the so called authors who are advocating against limited air power should understand that the people losing their lives in bus explosion and train accidents are no way connected to any kind of struggle you may call it.Then why the hell these armed gangs be allowed to terrorise civil society by not attacking them with any means.Do you want to see this nation , which is already reeling under constant threat of terrorist attacks, be treated as a soft target. Let me ask a question that why you and socalled civil liberties find difficult to condemn ghastly acts of murders, why only you protest when a encounter happens leading to killing of few naxalites. Please understand supporting crime or war waged against a nation is also , itself a crime..Please don try to convince country's interllectuals whatever happening is right.

Get your facts straight first. The author did not recommend carpet bombing. If you compare the Naxalbari movement of the '70s with the current one then either you are stupid or you are ......stupid.
The state has not declared war on citizens, it is just countering some bad citizens who declared war on the state.

b4 bombing the naxalite killers in the jungles first lets clear the decks in the cities and towns where the pi*ps and touts of the maoists are operating with impunity! the so called intellecuals etc who are openly subverting the indian state and providing covert support to the killers.. are just getting away with it .. having the best of both worlds! they are spreading half truths and subversive propaganda and demoralising the security forces,, they are confusing the citizens who may not be always well informed with facts on the ground.. why was kehar singh hanged in the indira murder case? he hadnt shot her! he was prt of the conspiracy! so why cant these maoist touts be tried for conspiracy? otherwise why are you demanding the extradition of LeT masterminds from pakistan in the 26.11 case?

areas.

We need airpower to do surveillance and also launch UAV powered strikes on Naxal hideout.

Airpower can also be used for rapid transportation and deployment of troops.

It is a necessary pre-requisite to gain the upper hand in any military conflict.

This conflict with Naxals is not a civil one but a military one since the Naxals themselves have militarized themselves.

I think Colonel (Dr) Anil Athale (retd) is trying to get some Media and Public attention by using some quotes from previous war!!! I will simply say he need to revise his thinking strategy or his mental condition , we cannot image how he will deal our own internal conflict if he is an Army general… Luckily he had been retired as a colonel may be because this type foolish imaginations. I have worked in Indian Army as a soldier for around 7 years and I know how the officers behave and how they and their wives treat their own soldiers .. Army officers are not entitled any Army Soldiers as their helpers except JCOs whoever is single. However they always misuse the facilities and even their wives treat the soldiers very badly. We can see that the depression and dissatisfaction always reflect by some bloody shot out and killing of their fellow officers….
Being grown up that attitude Colonel Anil always sees only the silver line. He cannot see the poor people’s depression and dissatisfaction. Quoting Bangladesh and Pakistan war strategy to deal our own people is rubbish or I will say MOTTA DIMAK KA ANTHOLAN….
We have already seen that even the most sophisticated military power America is always hitting the soft targets….
The problem at the Naxal affected area is purely the lack of development. Colonel Anil’s brothers i.e. civil service (IAS) officers are the major reason for this poverty. The

Dear Thejus,

One can see why u were out of the Army in just 7 years. Col.Athale is absolutely correct. Heli-borne quick reaction teams are an absolute necessity. Pl. study the campaign of the British army in Ireland and u will realise your stupidity. I wish some of your own had died in Dantewada then u would not have spoken such rubbish.

Corruption is the main reason why development never reached the poor adivasis, and forced them to support the naxal movement. Even after 60 years of independence, there is no proper infrastructure in place. No school, no medical, no roads ...
The mines in those region generates billions of dollars for politicians, parties, babus, middle man etc; but hardly any money spent on the development of locals. Not even 1% of money allocated for their development is actually spent on them.
In many Naxal affected area, every year you get reports on startvation deaths. That indirectly says why these people are resorting to naxal path. The issue is purely socio-economic, and this can be tackled only if there is a will in the govt machinary to implement development projects properly.
The current system of Central govt. - State govt. route only
leads more corruption.

Govt. should treat Naxal affected areas differently. Some kind of indepenedent body is required to implement and monitor development in these area separately to expedite development in those areas.

Maoists...and the Govt
by indian animator on May 26, 2010 11:45 PM

Maoists are violent, killers and must be brought to justice... at the same time... the govt must also be brought under justice for not putting efforts to develop the tribal areas of our country from Assam to Chhatisgarh to AP to Kerala...

Maoists are un-educated tribals... how many times our govt has ever heard the plead of any poor and illitrate people...? Maoist leaders are the blind followers of China, who supply them arms... and our govt is blind follower of capitalism... this is the reason both are killing each other...

The govt should learn how to win the people by work and not by gun...
The maoists must learn how to win the battle without using gun...

Use AIr-Power against Kashmiri terrorists
by Chris on May 26, 2010 11:44 PM

Why has the IAF's Air-Power NOT been used against the Kashmiri Terrorists, in the last 30 years ?

All countries are using Air-Power to combat terrorists, even in URBAN settings.
Israel uses helicopter-gunships to surgically take out only the hideouts of terrorists, leaving surrounding buildings intact.

The US is using its Air-Power to provide close-air-support to its ground troops in Iraq and in Afghanistan.

Even Pak is using its Air-Force against the Taliban in Swat, etc.
Sri Lanka used its Air-Power to support the Sinhala ground-troops against the LTTE.

The Indian Government is so concerned about any potential loss to Kashmiri life or Kashmiri dwellings (Minority-Vote-Banks) as a result of potential Collateral Damage, arising out of the use of the IAF's Air-Power in Kashmir, that the Indian Government instead prefers to squander away the precious lives of the Indian ground-troops, by forcing the Indian ground-troops to engage in hand-to-hand combat against heavily-armed Islamic terrorists, without providing the Indian ground-troops with any air-uspport from the IAF.

Normal operating procedures would dictate that the IAF first be deployed to sanitize any terrorist hideout, before the sending-in of the Indian ground-troops for carrying out mop-up-operations of the terrorists' hideout.

Some Views on establishing Peace
by Suraesh Singh on May 26, 2010 11:22 PM  | Hide replies

For long time peace and prosperity of all, we have to use more brain and use violence only as a last mean for self defence to maintain order in society. Too much focus on violence or teaching lessons, can also silence the genuine issues or hide our shortcoming, but its not going to solve the genuine issues and dissatisfied people will run back for our blood at the first opportunity. Every tiger in the jungle gets old and is then hunted by some weak animals, whom he ruled by force once, that’s how the jungle works ?

If violence have been the solution then Mahabharata would have been the first and last violent struggle within India but since then thousands of wars have been fought and millions and millions have died in violent conflicts. It only proves that war is not a solution, its can only be regarded as a temporary buffer for self defence, which can give us time to search for the root cause of issues and address them.

There are animal weaknesses in all of us and leaders are also not immune to it,
war can act as a temptation for people in command, as it give them the opportunity to be remembered in history at almost no personal costs to themselves. So limited mandate or checks/balances in a democracy are necessary to make sure leaders or public servant use their authority for best interest of people they represent. Police is answerable to public and has to work within law that’s why custody of people by Police is called Arrest and by

Police is answerable to public and has to work within law that’s why custody of people by Police is called Arrest and by Maoist or violent self declared revolutionaries of any kind who got free hand to do whatever is called Kidnapping !! Their is price for everything, with rights comes responsibilities.

Athale is a typical upper caste hate-filled racist Maharastrian who has lost his mind. He has turned against the native Indian citizens and want them to be bombed since they are bold enough to stand against the corruption, rot and criminalization of the police, judiciary and govt machinery.

I deeply regret to say that my distinguished citizen, instead of focussing on root cause or ways to deal with or solutions to the naxal struggle, he is trying to address unlogical issues which are totally out of context, as it seems. If we do not engage force, for any type, do you think common people and force who are striving to protect you and me from outer or inner aggression, should continue to lose their lives just because they want instill fear and rule like jungleraj.
