to test india's new LCH with live ammo and realtime war conditions. We will know how much firepower these LCH's have and how vulnerable they are to adversaries weapons.

Bomb Who
by ranjit k on May 26, 2010 09:56 AM

it is unfortunate that people are even thinking of bombing people who have not asked anything from govt while the govt and MNC's are eager to push them from their land. How on earth it is possible to target only militants and not poor villegers ? On one hand we cannnot target the training camps in POK undrer pressure from US/PAK. On the otherhand we think of using force against our own people. Wrong ideas of superpower (when 40% of people are Bellow Povt line)is forcing govt to take such action on behalf of greedy people. We all know all parties have helped these Naxals against their opponents from time to time. There should be some huaman solution to the issue while the police force is upgraded ,living conditions are improved ( not teh kind of devlopment we see in Mumbai/delhi , all slums ).

Why is India loosing
by vivek p on May 26, 2010 09:53 AM

India has been ruled by pimps for last 50 years and they had no willpower or killing instinct to protect the mother land. Why india is always thinking of the consequences before doing anything and the result in front of us is not different...

Thrash them.. no mercy.....
by vivek on May 26, 2010 09:53 AM

No mercy needed for Naxals. Thrash them the way SL did against LTTE. Dont ever say that they are our own people. This attitude will not help anyone. But using air power can be dangerous as Naxals may use poor people as human shields, just the samw way LTTE did.

air force with a deciplined ground force
by vivek on May 26, 2010 09:51 AM

air stirke will definitely demoralize the naxals ,at the same time we need a ground force who are well trained and determined to do the job .if the ground force follow the ipl theory of enjoying party and asking the tribals to serve food for them rather than doing their job then the end result will be a dossaster

Some people just dont understand

Mr Kristal Soldier the OOTW you talk about are not permitted by the Naxals themselves. How many time we hear that the Naxals have blown a school/hospital/bridge.
The problem with your kinds is you do not understand the mentality of brigands. Once you show an iron fist and dominate and then offer a rose, they might get you. But a rose from a weakened hand (position) is blasted into smithereens.
Talking about the terrain to be conducive to air-attack, do consider our own Kargil experience. It was a much more difficult terrain but when our air force turned up then the terrorists had to flee. Considering that these terrorists were supported by an enemy state, they had greater access to MANPADS, but this did not help them to prevail.
Your entire argument is flawed.

Naxals are active in 220districts, in 20states.. so u want to bombard all these states ??

Naxal issue is there since 1960, basically it was revolt against govt policies. its 50yrs now....... do u have any idea wht will happen if u ignore a problem for 50yrs... means the problems have crossed at least 3generations.

Till date how many Journalists covered both sides naxals/govt... unless naxals blow up few army men they will not get news coverage.. why media is biased ???? we have not seen the otherside of the issue.. this itselff is fishy.

In kargil war.. anyone with commonsense will go for air power.. govt wanted as many casualities as possible to get foreign and domestic donation.. so that they can have good time. No one understood what made govt to take 23day to give approval for army to go ahead ?????//

So do you think a Soldiers life because of which you are atleast safe is so nothing.
As per my understanding if there is no "Jai Jawan Jai Kisan". Your life will be utter waste, their life has more value than people like you.

So how does 50 years of deprivation explain these guys blowing up hospitals/schools. I dont think any sane human/tribal will destroy these instruments of development. It is the work of people whose mere existence depends on continuing the conflict ad-infinitum. There is talk of bringing development to these guys, but when even a well-intentioned hospital is not spared, something else needs to be done.
Journalists and liberals will loose a cause when the issue ebbs and so only vouch for the human rights to the murderers of Dantewaala.

Air fight is highly required
by KO Cherian on May 26, 2010 09:41 AM

By not entertaining the air fights aganist naxals - Government is letting ordinary/ village people get killed by Naxals & thus providing an oppertunity to show-off naxal smartness.

It also brings an impression among the ordinary village people that Naxal is powerful than the Govt:

War versus Win
by DilipVishnu maydeo on May 26, 2010 09:41 AM

Air strike will surely scare the enemy away, but these are 'citizen' of free India. They are rural tribesmen and tribeswomen. In cities we can win war not if you go into the hinterland. It is more complicated than what a schoolboy thinks. There is no scope of heroic fireworks as you will end killing innocent people as well.Air strikes are devastating and maximally punish maximum innocents as well.Again what if there is counterinsurgency relapse, are you going to escalate the war. This does not befit a democracy where there are social instruments of empowerment possible.Again some reports in media claiim that very big land sharks and 'capitalists' are involved in this mind game.A small or tiny operation can be done as suggested by Dr Anil but it has to be a microsurgery any major operation will be counterproductive and wipe any educated settlement.Government should right away induct non maoist leftist organizations to escalate socioeconomic reforms and preempt their ulterior plans. It will save them from shock when they learn thet they were fighting for 'warmongers' rather than true socialists.

Heads Off Colonel
by Indian Citizen on May 26, 2010 09:37 AM

Dear Colonel, I liked your article and views expressed with strategy.
you are right that Naxals have launched a guerrilla war against the Indian State and it is the rules of war that apply and not the India Penal Code or the Criminal Procedure Code.
Indian State has been shown to be ineffective and weak. This has led to raising the morale of insurgents and lowering that of the security forces.
Thus, use of airpower would be against the isolated Naxals. The use of surveillance and tracking will also force the Naxals to break up into smaller groups, making it that much difficult to stage attacks like the one in Dantewada.
I appreciate and wish that our Politicians do not continue to make mockery of Nation and its forces to such an extent that they cant perform.
