Motormen strike
by Viswanathan Ramki on May 04, 2010 05:19 PM  | Hide replies

The motormen have been voicing their grievences for the last few years-they don't want to work overtime-they need to work eight hours a day-employ more motormen-fill up vacancies-all fell on deaf ears-the scheduled strike of Jan26th postponed to a later date on govt request-no authority cared later -if you need to be heard you need to to pull the services down-such callous administrators we have-now treat them as humans -they have been doing an excellent job keeping the city moving all 24hrs -

The railway minister was busy with election campaigns in this grave situation. Instead of sacking the striking employees, she must be sacked for neglecting the duty.

Mumbai has poor infra as all the money gets spent on Delhi infra. Govt collects taxes in Mumbai and spends in Delhi. Can the Central govt even think of hosting common wealth games in Mumbai. Its next to impossible. Mumbai is'nt a city its a big slum a sweatshop owned by Delhi.

Motormen should have demanded for official GO of revised salary for each grade , changes to the work schedules /shifts , appointment of additional staff as immediate relief in their demands before calling-off the strike. How can they trust the words of authorities who did nothing until so far ? This is a pre-mature closure of this issue , may be they a) had more sympathy for the mumbaikers affected b) partially felt threatened also by MNS . These motormen had an opportunity today to show their solidarity , but it looks as if it ended rather meakingly.

Best way is commuters go on strike. I know trains are the lifeline of Mumbai but then travel free. Some TC asks you for a fine for not having a ticket tell them common man is on strike and we all stand united in the decision not to pay. The concerns of the motormen are valid and the Government is also responsible for the situation but in no way is this action by the motormen justified. Who do they think they are??? Bloody bullies.

it is really very pitty that govenment is so helpless against only 1000 men which are adversely affecting more than 50 lakhs of people. I am not able to understand the purpose of government going to high court?

I strongly agree on what you are saying..rather I will add more to it...railways are of central government and how the government go on strike like this..the other day when the war gets outburst between India and Pak at that time Miltary people will go on strike demanding some or the other thing. How can Govt employees go on strike. There shd have been a disastre recovery system ready.

Militarymen do have a family to feed, would like to watch wall mount TV, would like to go round the city in car ect. Whats wrong in them showing their protest against the Govt when they are treated badly?

They are not treated badly...who told you this?even motor mens are paid a handsome salary like you and me...this is not the right way to any agitation...even I am a army man since 15 years...with my salary I can buy a luxurious car, you see...and do you know what is the qualification these motor man have..I am not saying they shd not be paid overtime...but at the same time u shd understand the situation of common people...u want to go on strike... go..but dont force others to go on strike who are willing to work...this was the siuation on Chuchgate and CST station...so before writing anything you shd do your homework...motor mans are very good paid...and all other benifits of central government are availed by them

great ploy by the union. the case will become infructious and they can go on strike again whenever they feel like. but having promised the Govt ought to have stood by its promise.
