Railways till date is the cheapest mode of transport. Why else do you think people are going in it inspite of complaining about it! It serves the common man's purpose. Even the motormen are common men just like the commuters. Is there any difference? What the commuters do in their office, the railways is the office for the motormen! Dont the commuters ever abandon work or form strikes or quit jobs halfway when their demands are not met thus putting the company's clients at risk? Think on similar lines. This agitation is 1 zillion times better than Telangana agitations and Nandigram agitations!

Motormen are dumb, they did not forsee ESMA Act, their leaders are dumb to core.

Now they may face criminal charges if violating ESMA. Imprisonment upto 6 months. I agree motormen job is stressful and they desreve more, but they and their union is stupid just like any other union in India. They are not professionals and they certainly dont have brains

Demands are listed in Rediff main page article. Please refer.

Anyway, even if the demands are true and fair this is not a way to demonstrate it. This passes a wrong massage to other deparment...

This is become a regular thing to get demands met . u move on strike and get whatever u want . Bankers go on strike on long week end , motormen on stike during peak evening hours .

Give out advt for new job vacancy and fill up the post . If employees in private cos can work who has given he govt employees the right to go on strike and get demands sanctioned .

railway Motormen strike
by venugopalan marath on May 04, 2010 02:47 PM  | Hide replies

It is a lapse on the part of the Ministry to oversee the deadline given by Motormen's Union. Instead of waiting for the last minute, it would have been ideal morally for the government to intervene and find a solution to the issue. dragging any issue is not an ultimate solution. In the bargain the real sufferers are the lay man who do not have any other alternate mode of economic transport than the local trains. Motormen on their part should not have taken such a drastic step. By resorting to such a step they have lost the moral support of the commuters, because they were taken for a ride by the striking staff. They should have resorted to other recourse like approaching the higher authorities or the judicial system of the country rather than calling the strike. However, I am hopeful, the issue will be settled amicably by a joint meeting by the staff and government at the earliest.

Who will believe in such a stupid judiciary which spends millions of Rs. just bring one terrorist (Kassab) to justice which does not need any proof. What can they expect from judiciary and in how much time (may be 5 -6 years).

Motormen strike
by jayant Desai on May 04, 2010 02:43 PM

Motormen are duty consious Railway Empoyees & not politicians. On the cntrary Railway administration is controlled by Ministers who are basically politisions. They give assurances to tide away situations but never fulfil. This has corroded Government's credibility .No use blaming motormen who have lost faith in their bosses & now ignorenew promosises.Govt must fulfil original promoses.
