knowledge of local language in any state shud be made compulsary.

the reason for having states on basis of language was to promote regional languages.

so this decision is in line with the constitution of india.

I don't see any wrong in reserving low level jobs for locals. However, this should not promote laxity and laziness.

This is the right move. This should be made compulsory in all states. Preferences be given to local people with knowledge on Local language.
Poor Marathis are taken for raid by north Indians.
We south and Bangla should support Marathi brothers.
Wake up call to DMK, ADMK, TMC, TDP, TRC and Kannada Salukyas...

India is a union of linguistic states. Every state has its right to protect its people, culture, language and heritage. Non-governance of UP and Bihar should not kill the demographic of Maharastra.

Let Laloo/Maya develop their state and keep their people or let them go to Aus and face the challenge. dont come to Mumbai

Jai Maharastra

Go Hell. Why we should speak Hindi. Who is Abitabh anyway let him go back to his Allahabad. If he wants to live in Mumbai let him learn and Speak Marathi and if he wants to come to Chennai let him speak Tamil. If I want to move to Delhi I will surely speak Hindi.. will UP/biharis accept me if I speak Tamil in Patna or Kanpur on in Delhi Taxis.. North Indians are spoiling the whole country.

I do not know Marathi. But if I now decide to open a shop in Mumbai, will I be required to learn Marathi? If I am transferred to Chennai, will I be required to learn Tamil? If I decide to buy a house in Ahmedabad and live there, will I be required to learn and know Gujarati?

If not, then why this discrimination in respect of one profession?

Constitutional right
by Haramohan Roy on Jan 21, 2010 11:41 AM  | Hide replies

The Constitution of India gives us the fundamental right to profession and the right to livelihood.

To my mind, it is unconstitutional to curb this fundamental right in the name of Marathi! Let any Indian drive a taxi in any city of India with any language in his lips. It is his problem whether he can manage to speak with the people of the city or not. Why should there be a law in favour of any one language?

you are right on paper...but every regional leader wants votes...

the only way is to dissolve the nation and re-constitute on the basis of Indian nationality only...not on language basis.
