Britain did not make much difference in world war 2
by banana republic on Dec 05, 2010 11:36 AM

Notwithstanding what UK people may think, it is a fact that Britain did not really make much difference in world war 2. The war with Germany was essentially won by the Soviet Union and war with Japan was won by the United States. An overwhelming majority of Hitler's forces were directed against Soviet Union (eastern side) and not Britain (the western side).

Obama knows that Churchill had a very dark side
by Thuggee on Dec 05, 2010 11:10 AM

Barack Obama replaced the bust of Churchill in Oval Office with that of Abraham Lincoln. Obama knows that Churchill had a very dark side, because his father is from Kenya and Kenya was under the imperial rule of British too.

bengalis and history of argument

kolkata (the so called cultural capital of bengal only) is known for people who just know how to talk and keep critisizing others. if you look at the history they were always the first to lose any war with foreigners. The history of bengal has been history of losers. Even today they have the worst form of governance as they spend more time in discussing solution than the solution itself. do not blame your failures and inabilities on others. If you want to live the life you want, "you" have to live it the way you want dont expect others to do it for u. That is the rule of this nature. even buddha said " be thy own light". churchil was answerable to his people so he cared for them,(I am not sayng he is good or bad) wht did bengalis do? kept discussing the situations and tagore kept writing peoems for the queen? If they were dying of hunger couldnt they have killed every british soldier before choosing death? How many were there of them in bengal

Well, your thoughts are inspiring. But understand, when Britishers were ruling the country and in 1943, yes they were ruling India, it is their problem to provide and answerable to public they rule. In famine, it was not only food shortage but also the healthcare issue. If Churchil was not able to provide food and healthcare for the needy, he should have got out of India and not ruling us. Your logic of leaving it to nature do not go well. Undersatand, an average Bengali is not responsible to be called as lossers in history. Kabir, first learn to respect others. If Churchil was wrong, so be it and saying that was not wrong. You do not need to justify Churchil and still prove your colonial mindset.

Hi Kabir,

Bengal has been the seat of indian intellect for centuries. From Swamy Vivekananda and Jagadish Chandra Bose to Netaji and Jatin Das, bengal contributed a lot to India. I despise the communist government in Bengal and I agree that Bengal is out of tune with midern india, but I believe that Bengal will bounce back.

IAM NOT A BENGALI.. I AM FROM ANDHRA

MR KABIR BRITISH DID NOT RULE BY ELECTIONS. WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. YOU ARE CRITICIZING BENGOLIS THEN BY YOUR OWN LOGIC YOU ARE ANOTHER FAILURE. DO NOT BLAME OTHERS WHATEVER OTHERS DO - EVEN IF IT IS ARTIFICIAL FAMINES EVERY 5 YEARS! YOU WILL MAKE A GREAT TALIB!

Hey Man,
I would like to know which part of the world you live in and work with. You guys deserve a recommendation or a prize for the kind of knowledge you show about the history and people, and the respect you have for others. Bengal was the cradle of reneissance in India...was the harbour of Indian freedom struggle..Go and get your history right...The Indian freedom struggle was initiated, orchestrated and master minder from Bengal...Its mostly three provinces of British India, Bengal, Punjab and Maharastra that returened fire with fire and suffered maximum during the colonial rule because they spearheaded the movement....and you know...like you we don't tag it as Bengals' freedom struggle or Punjabs' fight for freedom...we proudly call it India's independence movement...

I am a Bengali and am proud to be,though I am more proud of being an Indian.Aggreeably Bengal has lost its vitality and momentum (blame it on the political system)in recent time, but hasn't lost its talent.I can give you a fair statistics of what the percentage of Bengali's in the top corporate worlds, among the top scientists and educationists, in the music, film and literature, but we don't go out to the world beating our own drums!
The last thing I want to say...with all of us being part of the "history of losers"..we still make Bengal the most habitable and safe place for any people from any province of India to settle down unlike you, the winners, who want to boot

Winston Churchill-India hater

There is no doubt that Churchill was a great leader of Britain who inspired his people to stand up to Hitler and fightW2. But we must also remember that had not Hitler commited the blunder of attacking Russia and had not the US entered the war due to Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor,Churchill and his country would have been defeated by the Germans. The British threw him out immediately after the war and brought in a Labour Govt, under whose Prime Miniter Atlee, India got its independance.Churchill was the biggest Imperialist and he hated India and its leaders. It is history.Congratulations to Madhushree Mukerjee for exposing Churchill for being responsible for the death of lakhs of people during the Bengal famine.I wish she had kept the title of her book shorter. The Congress Govt and Sharad Pawar are also guilty of allowing lakhs of tons of foodgrains to rot instead of distributing to the poor as suggested by the Supreme Court.Churchill was right in saying that after independance - "power will go into the hands of rougues and rascals and not a loaf of bread will be left untaxed........"

To know the true face of British and how they really pushed Indian centuries backward.
The naiveities among Indian elite dont have any clue of what British did. They simply admire some buildings and railroads (Brits constricted roads to hill stations to stay leaving the real India (villages) to rot)
The scum bag Churchil also presided over international the drug trade and made India the biggest opium producer at that time.
