UNFAIR
by B Kumar on Apr 27, 2010 09:23 AM  | Hide replies

It would be unfair to paint entire print and tv media so black.
They have been discharging their national duty as a pillar of democracy by making headlines of stories like 'Sania-Shoaib-Ayesha Saga' and 'Adventures of Nityanand' in recent past.
What more you expect from them ?

UPA govt and the media.
by devedas bhaskar on Apr 27, 2010 09:12 AM  | Hide replies

Our Central govt. becomes proactive only when they want to snub the BJP. At all other times they keep guarding their minority vote banks.National security gets compromised if the attackers are muslims and the invention of a "Hindu terrorist" concept is the solution for safeguarding India and muslim votes!
And as for our media..Oh what jokers...both electronic and print.Blindly support the ruling party at the centre for favours....thats their golden rule....!

Who owns the media in India ?

NDTV: A very popular TV news media is funded by Gospels of Charity in Spain Supports Communism. Recently it has developed a soft corner towards Pakistan because Pakistan President has allowed only this channel to be aired in Pakistan . Indian CEO Prannoy Roy is co-brother of Prakash Karat, General Secretary of the Communist party of India . His wife and Brinda Karat are sisters.

India Today which used to be the only national weekly which supported BJP is now bought by NDTV!! Since then the tone has changed drastically and turned into Hindu bashing.

CNN-IBN: This is 100 percent funded by Southern Baptist Church with its branches in all over the world with HQ in US.. The Church annually allocates $800 million for promotion of its channel. Its Indian head is Rajdeep Sardesai and his wife Sagarika Ghosh.

Times group list:

Times Of India, Mid-Day, Nav-Bharth Times, Stardust, Femina, Vijay Times, Vijaya Karnataka, Times now (24- hour news channel) and many more...
Times Group is owned by Bennet & Coleman. 'World Christian Council does 80 percent of the Funding, and an Englishman and an Italian equally share balance 20 percent. The Italian Robertio Mindo is a close relative of Sonia Gandhi.

Star TV: It is run by an Australian, who is supported by St. Peters Pontifical Church Melbourne.

Hindustan Times: Owned by Birla Group, but hands have changed since Shobana Bhartiya took over.

Indian Express: Divided into two groups. The Indian Express and new Indian Express (southern edition) ACTS Christian Ministries have major stake in the Indian Express and latter is still with the Indian counterpart.

Eeenadu: Still to date controlled by an Indian named Ramoji Rao.

Ramoji Rao is connected with film industry and owns a huge studio in Andhra Pradesh.

Kairali TV: It is controlled by Communist party of India (Marxist)

Threats to India
by Manas Sen on Apr 27, 2010 09:02 AM  | Hide replies

While the article has clearly stated what the problems we face in the current scenario. But I believe it is somewhat alarmist. We are fairly well placed militarily to face the twin challenges of China and Pakistan. The whole world knows that India is furiously building up it's military strength along with China. On the domestic front, let us not overemphasise the Naxalite menace. Yes it is necessary to root it out completely but that cannot be done under the glare of publicity. Lots of their leaders have been put into custody. Many are injured and fighting for their lives. Quietly and efficiently, they are being cut to size. Yes they will carry out some high profile attacks for the sake of publicity. Those need to be ignored and the efforts to marginalise them completely are being implemented every day and every hour. Afghanistan will continue to be a problem and a hot bed of militancy. But we need not be too alarmed about it. It is more of Pakistan's concern than ours. Only our proactive role there could eventually become defensive one without too much of consequences.

I do not agree that the article is alarmist. In fact, we Indians try to leave everything to the end. 'Dekha jayega', 'chalta hai' attitude is the bane of Indian society.
It takes decades to build aircraft carriers, warplanes, and in indian context, even mortar guns. We need to work on them now to be able to see them 20yrs down the line.
In case of Naxal movement, we had start work 10yrs ago to avoid to be in a situation like today. Its the result of the same 'we are doing okay' attitude that we have to loose a company of soldiers to Naxals, not to mention the aggrieved tribals.
And if we do not assert our genuine concerns in Afganistan today, we will be bleeding again in 10yrs time.
All that is being done in above 3 context is solving the symptoms of the problems which have grown so much that we cannot even start treating the actual root cause issue. Its always better to solve the root cause than to keep on fighting the symptoms. And its never too early to do that.

Are we immature people?
by Suhas on Apr 27, 2010 08:54 AM  | Hide replies

Shashi Tharoor's resignation tore my heart. It's absurd that kangaroo cricket can make one of India's brightest ministers a victim. Indian media should learn from the BBC. They are the most objective journalists I have ever seen. I just can't digest the kind of journalism I see on some of the channels nowadays. Do they think we are immature people? Or are we indeed immature people? I feel sorry for my son's generation, who are growing up watching IPL, game shows, music shows, and other silly stuff. I grew up listening to All India Radio, and when my dad could afford a television set, also started watching Doordarshan. If any of the satelite channels had even a third of the quality of what I used to watch, they would have been great programmes, and I would have acknowledged it. I would beg all parents to kindly wean their kids off the cheap stuff we see on some of these channels, and show them things with more meaning. Otherwise I am afraid we are looking at an intellectually bankrupt generation going forward. God bless India.

I am not sure about Shashi Tharoor but I am sure that most of us Indians are quite immature though intelligent. We somehow are not sincere enough to acknowledge our own problems and are lazy enough to ignore them till they are big enough. Its because we know we can solve them being intelligent enough. But sometimes it grows so much while we ignore it that we cannot solve it anymore even with intelligence. That makes us dumb in a sense as who with enough brains leave their problems to grow big than to solve them as they appear.

I also agree about you comment on our media. It is making things even worse.

The biggest problematic trait that comes out of all this is Indian public's short-sightedness. We cannot see beyond today and hence cannot decipher what's good and what's bad for us in future.
