Venky is Arrogant
by Guest on Oct 14, 2009 08:25 PM

Listen to his interview to PTI - he is mad that well-wishers are clogging up his email inbox and scolds them for reaching out. Looks like the Nobel has suddenly gotten to his head. What was genius about the crystal structure anyway - it was just a matter of time.

It proves that Nobel does not require to be a First boy
by sagoto on Oct 13, 2009 10:04 AM

I dont know what requires to become a scientist. But history is proving its again again that To become a distinguised scientist you dont need to be first boy. Beacuse first boy means they can perform their best in designed pracstise we have. Please free this pariah. Pleae give our children a chance to become scientist not the first boy of the class.

Why he is great
by Ashwin on Oct 11, 2009 08:37 PM  | Hide replies

He is great not now but 35 yrs ago when he realised that if he has to get even Ordinary prize (let alone Nobel Prize) he has to leave India. He is far more greater today than 35 yrs ago.

He is great because he never mentioned that he shared it with two other scientists. Typical Indian liar and egoist

While the fact that he has won
by piri on Oct 11, 2009 02:19 PM  | Hide replies

the Nobel should, in the normal course of things, have been a matter of immense pride for Tamil Brahmins (who tend more than other groups to display their pride because of the achievements of others just because the achievers are from their own community), this particular instance does not appear to enthuse them to the usual extent owing to Mr. Ramakrishnan's negrito-dravidian features !

Most tamil brahmins (and I dare say, the Telugu and Kannada brahmins too) keep labouring under the self imposed belief that they belong to the 'Aryan' race as distinct from the rest of the society that belongs to the 'lesser dravidian' race. They would like everyone else to be deluded as they delude themselves into thinking that they are 'fair' and possess 'aryan' features and present a stark contrast to the rest of the south Indian population !!

Mr. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan is one more inconvenient but very conspicuous manifestation of how even 'golliwogs' sometimes claim to belong to the 'white' and 'superior' races !!!

This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Here we are talking about an individual's scientific achievement and look at this idiot talking about caste equations.

What makes you think that Venky has negro/dravidian feature. On the contrary he has high forehead(a sign of high intellect) and straight nose and thin lips which are typically caucasian. His complexin is the result of being born in south where the climate is always hot. Besides what is inside his head matters. Obviously his American wife would have noticed thes when she married him than your small minded insight. Besides a lot of north indians are dark and have dravidian features> Tambrams are a class apart from other brahmins(Telugu , Kannada and Kerala brahmins included). Tambrams are accepted as AMbrams> Get alife

'Venky' has 'thin' lips ???

Vow !!

And his dark complexion is merely due to the southern climate ?? Vow again !!

If the above were true, then the majority of the southerners too will 'qualify' as 'caucasians' !!

Tamil brahmins are a class apart ? That is a sweeping generalisation. In that case let me respond with a generalisation of my own about Tamil brahmins :

An unusually large percentage of them (as compared to other communities) have mouths so foul smelling that it often is difficult to stand even a metre away from them !!

Are You gay or into blowjobs. You must be in the habit ofkissing men ontheir lips.. That is you seem into sense the smell or notice other people lips. BTW many north indians(I presume you are one donot exactly smelllike roses. They donot even take a bath for ages . I had a UPwala colleague who had such a bad breath people used disinfect the place after he left the room. Discuss ideas not the personal traits of peopple

he exemplifies indian culture. he does not eat meat, does not drink alcoholic beverages, is very polite, very scholarly, does dhyana, very successful in most competitive environment, a stark repudiation of socialism. a man fully tuned into indian values radiates confidence in non-indian environment.

Listen to Ramayanam discourse
by vorpal on Oct 09, 2009 07:46 PM  | Hide replies

Professor Umesh Varshney's reaction is typical of Indian science and scientists. It is like someone listening to Ramayanam discourse and imagining that he defeated Ravana; or watching Virender Sehwag hit a few sixers, and the spectator imagining that he is a great batsman.

Dear Vorpal,

I do not know Prof.Umesh Varshney personally, but i have had the opportunity to listen to his talks. He is surely a class apart from the mediocrity that we all cherish. why blame only the scientists in india. each one of us has a contribution to this sordid state. As long as each one of us has a strong gradient of self-centered attitude towards self, family, community, caste, religion.... we can never see the light. When CV Raman tried to be quality conscious we demoted him from the post of Director to a mere faculty. but we still bask in his glory. Shame on our society. Our self centeredness has cost us a lot. Its painful to belong to such a society that is ruthless towards quality but loves self centeredness at any cost.

Till we realise the value of identifying good talent, skills and sincerity in our society, we will be waiting for the west to recognise our greatness.

US and west have always idenified our Indian talent, ......includng Gandhiji, the father of
our nation!!!

But we killed him . None else to destroy our own credibility......self destroying people.
