''Why Venky is a great Scientist ?''
by rammesh garg on Oct 09, 2009 04:54 PM  | Hide replies

One learns that Prof.Venkatraman Ramakrsihnan was a GNR Fellow at the IISc, Bangalore.Very promptly the CM of TN has congratulated the Nobel laureate and "felt proud that he is a Tamil" What is the contribution of the TN government in promoting education of excellence in the State, particularly after 1967, i.e., after the DMK came to power. Here is a small piece of history. The then Madras University an Institute for Advanced Research Molecular Biology and Crystallography, headed by Prof.G.N.Ramachandran, a world class scientist, who very narrowly missed the Nobel Prize way back in the 1960s. The present CM when came to power in 1969, removed Dr.A.L.Mudaliar, and appointed on Sri.N.D.Sundaravadivelu as the Vice Chancellor of the Madras University. A clean political appointment. The VC created obstacles for Prof.GNR, administratively. One fine morning the Prof. walked out lock, stock and barrel and with his students to IISc, Bangalore. The excellent advanced laboratory was created painstakingly by the Prof. at his own cost. The Advanced Research Centre was just left with bricks and walls. Who was the loser ? The degeneration of standard of Education started then. Mr.Kapil Sibal to note.

That one of us is recognised is reason enough! Going by some negative comments, to put it politely, why take it as slap in our faces? To get any work attested by leading world experts is not for the faint-hearted. To do pioneering work an any field benefits humanity. Kudos indeed for the Nobel Laureate!

Let us invest in our brightest! Our present set-up is herd mentality, putting square pegs in round holes! Only those with passion can have any meaningful life. Real scientists have the fire in their bellies! Once you reach a pinnacle, you are marked for life! Any speech, article will follow a tag - Nobel Prize Winner! The bar is raised & your life is never the same again!

Yes, it is tough for our desi scientists to win accolades. All areas are polluted by petty politics, a bane for any scientist! We all have ideas but how to make it workable & stand to international scruiny? We all know we found water on the moon but our shouts were muffled at best!

It matters only for the small-minded to belittle the achievement of one of us. It brings out the worst traits of defeatism, cannot accept some are better than most. For me, if my friend achieved great success, I will rejoice - I know him, though he may not now! Yes, it can be a test sometimes, like when my best friend married the most beatiful girl in town! Tough!!

One amongst us has done us all proud! Forget he may be different. One brother or sister may make it big, but don't we share the same parent?

The fact is that even after 60 yrs of independenc, we have not evolved a standard education policy. Look at the changes that are mooted by Sibal and his team. Are we not playing with young generations with too many experiments? The major problem is education has become a state subject. In the changing situation of ppl migrating to different places, there is urgent need to bring this important subject under HRD and education should cease to the state subject

education should be a state subject. PERIOD.
HRD will force ppl for southern states to learn hindi which is not acceptable.

The fact is that due to reservations, this scientist had to go to Baroda for his studies leaving TN. In the name of reservations, we are sacrificing merit and this suicidal for the nation. Even after 60 years of implementation, there is no one who can bell the cat!

All the Filmfare awards are coming from the India. What is contribution of Arabic world? Why do you mix Oscars with Noble? For everything you need money and support. When Hinduism was single religion in India during first Millennium they had lot of lot Discovery and art work. Then Invaders came destroyed. These invaders ruled for thousand years destroyed fabric . Even so called bad things like S*athi, Untouchablity came from Arabic peninsula.

The Fact
by tamilrocks on Oct 08, 2009 08:09 PM  | Hide replies

over 2000 years of domination what brahmins have achieved is 2 Nobel prize. For the kind of build up and show they make over others they shd have made more than this. All that they have done over 2000 years is stopped others from being educated. Now they are paying the price for it through reservation.

Think of this way the one who believe in god (brahmins) had to do work on the atheist believes (the sceiene) and get noted to the world...so start being a rationalist

I wonder 2000 years back, we had nobel prize?

I'm not a brahmin. The brahmins have committed a lot of blunders and it's true they are paying for it. But if you think non-brahmins are saints, you are mistaken. Today, the non-brahmins are the ones committing all the "sins"! What's more - without the brahmins, we would have lost our vedas and the upanishads and a lot more. So, everything needs to be looked at in a balanced way and dispassionately -only then we can see the truth behind things.

How long u people cheat the nation in the name of reservation and 2000 years is merely a slogan. Are u people not ashamed? There are no jobs like the one we have now 2000 years ago. These are only 100 years old.

The Idiots Karunanidhi and Veeramani cheat the poor backward people and make the rich non-brahmins more richer.

Only time will tell and these Idiots will pay heavily for it.

The issue is not what happened 2000 years ago, but what is happening now. Also, do you think we are progressing? Are we not witnessing caste based political parties? PMK, SP, RJD, LJP are classic examples of political parties based on caste. Instead of blaming what happened, please comment on what is happening. What is the situation in Tamil Nadu? When somebody says, party is like my family, he really means that, and family has become party. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is still to be born, and today is the reality.

You call yourself an atheist and rationalist so how come you write in such divisive casteist terms?

Atheism & rationalism involves not attributing 'good' or 'evil' intentions to anyone (including Brahmins) because 'good' and 'evil' will immediately follow in the realm of God (heaven and hell).

Your claim of atheism and rationalism falls short.
