A perfect model for austerity
by Desh Premi on Oct 09, 2009 03:58 AM  | Hide replies

For those rubbish politicians who are even encashing on their dubious claims on auasterity should read this. A man the world eulogises has a family that lives a simple life. I think it is hypocricy of the politicians that is the major problem in India

In India a Panchayat councilor aims to own a Mercedes not through hard work but by looting people's money. Our thick (as good as bullet proof) skinned politicians and babus will never learn from such great personalities.Firstly they won't know what's Nobel Prize and they haven't learnt our own Father of the Nation.SHAME! SHAME?

I am giving another example of Linus Pauling who graduated as Metlurgical Engineer and got interested in Crystallography and then in Chemical structures and later on DNA ( unfortunately he missed Noble prize for double helix structure, which Watson and Crick got ) but opened roads for Molecular biology and lot of other fields .
There is a saying in Sanskrit: Kriya Sidhih Satwe Bhavati, Mahataam Nopkarne ...
All great fellows are like this only ...

Stop belaboring the point
by Thomas Mathew on Oct 08, 2009 10:37 PM  | Hide replies

It is such a cliche with professors in America, the life style of cycling to work and stuff. Instead of highlighting the work that Dr Venketesh did, rediff wants to play tabloid and talk about his bathroom habit. What a waste of time

Einstein famously said he simply could'nt understand why very few understood him but a lot of folks adored him. It is content that matters, rediff. Stop being a complete tabloid

The same should go to all those who are engaged in research works, but not just who are awarded with Nobel laureate or after they were awarded.

Nobel winner does not own a car, cycles to work
by jai jacob on Oct 08, 2009 07:35 PM  | Hide replies

Congrats to Dr.Venky. Another feather on Indias cap.India always produces the best in the world.

But as the Rediff highlights on the heading that he dosen't own a car but cycles. It has no wonder people like Dr.Venky dosen't have time to go to a gym for his excercise but he use his time wisely using a cycle. It is a common thing in USA. There is no big issue in it. Only we people look down on cyclist.

I read a bumper sticker once, it said "Live Simply so others can Simply Live".

Another said "The Best Things in Life are Not Things".

We can learn a lot from Dr. Venky.
