Thank God
by Jas on Oct 09, 2009 11:42 AM  | Hide replies

Venky went abroad.
If he was in India, he would be bowing before a Minister or a Govt. Babu, and asking for his pension to be released.

Thank God for small mercies.
No Resident Indian (except Rabindra Nath Tagore) has ever won a Nobel Prize.

you might not agree to this observation, but it is a desperate requirement of the world powerful nations, that all great research happens there and not anywhere else.

Hence, typically Nobel-like awards are given to people, as far as possible associated with prestigious Western universities or institutions.

It is important to note that MK Gandhi did not get a Nobel Prize for Peace.

That itself should show how pointless and unjust, and skewed out of deliberate manipulation, the Nobel is.

Italian Mafia are the hitmen of the powerful elite who control the world.

And so while JC Bose and Nikola Tesla and a few others independently created radio, still, Italian Guglielmo Marconi got the Nobel for it.
It's by far the most powerful technology for politicians and control-freak types.
Hence radip must come home, beyond chance of patentability.
Hence Marconi.

Since Tesla would make Central Europe proud, which would not work well politically, Edison gets the prizes and Tesla gets nothing.

If they give Nobels to people who have not left India and China, why will future students want to leave their motherland if they can get a Nobel at home.

Real Nobel types NEVER care for money.
Hence they dont allow research in any place where they can force it shut down.

Communists, of course, have their own opposite polarity of thoughts and motivation.

Nobel prize for Dr. Venkatraman
by Hebbar R on Oct 09, 2009 11:07 AM

It is a matter of pride that a person of Indian origin has got a Noble Prize. But, it is a matter of shame that this noted scientist had to leave India to purse research work that fetched him this renowned recognition. Had he been in India, he probably would have ended up as a file pusher - unable to progress due to the upteen hurdles (incl reservation policy) here. All effort would have gone only in untangling red tape!!!

Sadly, India is a country of 'Big Boast but small Roast! With, 1.2 Billion RESIDENT Indians, NOBODY has achieved any Nobel prize while STAYING-ON in India! Its always an NRI, who makes India proud i.e. one who had to LEAVE India to achieve success! India, as a country has a DUBIOUS and SHAMEFUL 'world-record' of being a country which REMAINED slave for centuries and centuries! Ultimately, it was a NRI, Mohandas Gandhi (who was a practicing-lawyer in South Africa for 27 years!), who was called by Congress and he ultimately got India her freedom! It was again a foreign educated Nehru who had to shoulder the responsibility to develop India as the first PM. Even TODAY, India could develop ONLY due to the skills of NRIs e.g. Manmohan Singh, P. Chidambaram et all. India LACKS genuine heroes and hence it manipulates to call all 'ex-Indians' achievements as its own! It should be remembered that Dr. Hargobind Khurana, S.Chandrashekhar, V.Ramakrishnan, Kalpana Chawla, Sunita Williams et all are NOT Indians but rather Americans/foreigners! Whether it is Dhirubhai Ambani (an NRI who worked in Aden) or his kids Mukesh & Anil (i.e. NRIs who got their management skills only after they studied in USA) or Azim Premji, Narayan Murthy or in fact, every person of achiever-status in India today, is/was an NRI! They could achieve their talent/skills ONLY after they LEFT India! Even though one may feel tempted, it may not go well to call Resident-Indian as Resting (or rusting!) Indians! Sadly, the

Carlos: Sorry to say you are extending too far. YOu seem to have got the information from the "chain mail". One reason for the down fall of Indsians was to nto to travel abroad as it was against the Hindu custom. This custom was NOT for all communities but sadly religion played havoc in 13th-14th centuries when the downfall began. Extending your logic, can one say that one should make achievements only by staying in Chennai, Mumbai or Delhi? Wll not it be ridiculous. Travel widens up people's out look. For your information, when I grew[in 60s and 70s] I never centured out of my city and my subsequent travels in 80s all over the world broadened my ut look.
So your mail carries no weight as far as I am concerned.

yes it is true, if you want to shine you should escape i-d-i-o-d-i-c caste culture and f-o-o-l-i-s-h domination from upper caste. It is in the foriegn where you fold your ugli tails and slate to their ambients and do good thing even if you are a upper caste. am I right? becouse in india you will have extra lengthy horn which surely spoil your mind.

in india there is a smug attitude amongst people. its highly stoopid bcos indians have a lot to learn.
see,the westerners travelled and picked up things and imported to their countries. even fork and knife was turkish, ofcourse they imported gunpowder, printing, textiles, etc the westerners have benefitted a lot from all these importations. this is their attitude.
wheras indians until recently are smug and like frog-in-well.huge amount of change in attitude is still required.
i can say first start with cleaning up metros, then slum redevelopment, then redirecting growth to smaller towns, helping talented ppl , compete in foreign markets etc

What venky has done is not easy, but not too difficult for any Indian as we are the country of scientiests, doctors, experts of language and literature. He has shown youth of India and world the power of low living and high thinking. We are not proud of currupt people but of persons like venky. It is not for congratulating him but for congrulating Country India.

Senior Venkat Raman is a blessed father.
by mallaiah anchoori on Oct 09, 2009 07:41 AM

Venky has once again brought to the fore the truth behind the proverb-"empty vessels make much noise".His simple living to the extent of not even owing a car but preferring a bicycle instead & high thinking which fetched him even Nobel Prize is worth emulation by all the intelligentsia all over the world. It is very heartening to observe that even by looks,Venky looks very simple & thoroughly gentlemanly. It is really amazing that a doctorate in physics should have preferred to do another masters in biology & evinced such a keen interest in a different but allied field like molecular biology & walked to the highest heights of sharing the Nobel Prize along with other two with whom he had only occasional meetings, but worked being at all together different areas. As the mysterious ways of God they would have been & to the great luck of human race,he should have declined medicine & joined pure sciences only to guide & aid the doctors' community with his invention instead of becoming a medical doctor in deference to the wish of his father. With due regard & respect to our country & its greatness of its rich heritage,it proved quite good that Venky left for USA for higher studies & did his research in USA which would have been somewhat difficult locally in India with the poor infrastructure available.Senior Venkatraman is really a blessed father to have such gifted son & a daughter who is also in the research line setting aside opportunity to mint money in USA as a medical doctor.

He is really lucky-read before you comment
by kamal bapatla on Oct 09, 2009 06:45 AM

He is lucky becoz he left India still our old politicians claim his talent is because them and they are trying to glorify them selves. But this guy got to where he is by his shear hard work and good support from US and UK universities and their funding to help him what he has acheived. Had he stayed in India his life would have gone down the drain and even if he invents some thing...still some of his superiors/politicians quick to drag his feet down or claim as if its all becoz of them!!!!

Good on you Venky....please for God sake do not come to India...they will notice u when u acheive something but not support you during ur hard times to achevive something.
