Where is the action from Indian Govt?
by Vijay T on May 31, 2009 08:22 PM  | Hide replies

India summoned OZ' Amb and stated clearly what it wants from OZ govt - which is really appreciable. But why is the same govt remain silent for innocent Indian fishermen getting killed by srilankan navy every year (4k in last 10 yrs)?
Does it mean Indian fishermen lives are less valuable than Indian students?
Why this bias in the so-called free media?

Petty fight? You got to be kidding. Would you say the same thing if your son/daughter is stabbed?

Every life is important fishermen/students. Granted, every issue does not get the same attention. Are you saying Indians should keep quiet no matter what? You are the kind of people that makes Indians get messed with.

Open-and-shut case for lawsuit exists in this matter
by Chris on May 31, 2009 06:04 PM  | Hide replies

A lawsuit needs to be filed against the City of Melbourne, seeking millions of dollars in damages, from the City of Melbourne, as compensation for medical expenses and for pain and suffering caused to the victim.

This is how these matters proceed here in the US.

The Melbourne police have casually and offhand dismissed the chances of this being a racially-motivated attack, when, in fact, the statistics of attacks on Indian students clearly show that an inordinately high number of Indian students, (disproportionate to their representation in the overall community in Melbourne) have been attacked. As this racial trend was obvious over the past year, and has still not resulted in any concrete steps being taken by the City of Melbourne, there exists an open-and-shut legal case against the City of Melbourne for having failed to protect the victim from vicious attacks.

The Indian Consular Apparatus in Australia should immediately swing into action, to file the lawsuit against the City of Melbourne and engage a competent legal team, on behalf of the victim, at the earliest.

Big B has done right thing - need guts to decline honor openly
by Shalini Talwar on May 31, 2009 05:46 PM  | Hide replies

Why few culprits are criticising Big B here? If he would have accepted this honor then same people would have cursed him for doing this. These few guys are same people who always right bad against few good Indians.

At least Big B has guts to reject the Honors from country who is not taking action against the culprit who are hurting fellow Indians.

Big B is not shameless person like Dilip Kumar who happily accepted Nishan E Pakistan from Pakistan Government. Big B has shown he is real Indian.

In fact all those who live in Australia should go against the Australian Govn who is failing to protect the poor Indian students. Guys like you should open your eyes, these type of attacks can be prevented only if all the Indians including top celebrities and politicians show their concerns about it.

BIG B is 100% right in doing this, open your eyes you fool Indians, no point licking legs of Aussies, if other Indians do not support you in this crisis then don't expect Aussie police for your favor.

Indian students should arm themselves with knives and chillipowder and sharp instruments. They should stay together and work as a team. Australia has always had a bad reputation for Racism. I think this issue should be taken all the way upto UN.

Chillipowder is fine, not knives etc please. you don't want murder cases on students.

best thing is to put pressure on the australian universities by stopping students from going there for a year

Joke ..
by ramesh v on May 31, 2009 05:15 PM  | Hide replies

Unfortunately our media is ir-responsible.
Especially "Times Now" which i have always noticed creates some sort of problem.

As far as Amitabh's decision, it shows how immatured he is. By rejecting the honor he has further created more anti-Indian sentiment in the university level. Instead, he should go there and give a speech mentioning how these incidents could affect the Indo-Australia relations.
As a well-known fact, Indians(or atleast most of the Indians) are sentimental idiots.

Don't want to forget another fact..
We Indians have no right to talk about racism.
In many of the discussion board i have noticed the odour of racism. Especially every-time it is about Rajnikant, many people use to say he is a monkey, black etc.,
Racism is not the only form of anti-human activity.
We have killed many in the name of religion, caste etc.,
So finally, Amitabh's rejection is a joke. Shame on you Mr.Amitabh.
You voiced against the slumdog millianaire film but what did you contribute when those kids' houses were demolished. Only the producer and director of the film came to rescue eventhough it is not necessary for them as they don't need publicity any more.

Typical Indian yuppy spineless attitude. Just because some thing happened years ago some where in India is it Ok to allow what is happening in Australia today? Hate crimes will have to be punished. I am really sad that lot of educated INdians are so immature and spineless and connect un related things to avoid speaking up against injustice by white guys out of shear fear of not appearing good before them. Typical servile attitude. Just because your great grandfather killed some one does not mean you have to be quiet when some one attacks you. what has slum dog millionaire has got to do with it? If a white Australian kid today is a victim of racial attack anywhere he has a right to complain. You can not say their forfathers butchered the oborigins hence he has no right to complain. Indian please grow up.

Lot of people's homes are demolished. That happens in India. Why should it be Amitab who should come to rescue? The Slum dog producer made huge amount of money using those kids. It is proper that they came to help. It is every one's right to oppose or support a political view point of a movie. Why are you linking un related incidents and come up with a warped logic. Keep your hatred for fellow Indians to yourself.

I am not a curse as you mentioned which is bit harsh. You don't know how I love the country and I dream about future India. Just by reading someone's comments you can't just bash at him.
My comments were reation to the Amitabh's decisions in the recent past and that's the reason I brought slumdog issue over here.
There are different people who follow different approach to a problem.
The essence of my comments where not against protesting for justice. But about Amitabh's decision and as citizens of India what we need to do first before asking another country how their citizens should behave.

I have clearly mentioned he should speak about the issue in Australian soil. That is called guts and not rejecting the honor.
I don't think Amitabh has rejected due to the happenings in Australia. I don't want to write what could be the reason as your perception is different.

So what? He and Jaya have given Raj Thackrey more than a bit of their mind. What did you expect him to do? Is that any reason why he could'nt speak up today? Besides, What happened in Mumbhai was an Indian affair and enough people have reacted to it including Amitab.

Will it make a difference if Amitabh accepts or rejects the doctorate awarded by some roadside university of Australia ?
What Amitabh wants to show here ?
Amitabh used this as a tool for his publicity. Rather than giving him doctorate, university should have given him some monetory benefits. I doubt Amitabh would not have rejected it.
