india attained freedom due to post senario of world war 2.from 1945 to 1956 many other nations also got independence. they did not have gandhi to boast about. also when sardar patel was unimasly elected as prime minister, only because of gandhi nehru became the PM. AND TILL TODAY WE HAVE 2 SUFFER DUE TO GANDHI & NEHRU.

Indeed. Anti-colonial pressures were applied to Britain as a precondition to US military aid against Germany in WWII.
India was going to get independence regardless of Gandhi's efforts.

Shame on Indian Govt.
by chetan bhagwat on Mar 10, 2009 11:08 AM

Indian Govt. don't have power to stop one such mere auction. Actually it was there duty to get auction banned and get the things back. who cares for gandhiji. things and eforts would have been different for congress if this were belongings of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi.

The man drank his own urine. Doesn't that say what kind of sick dirty person he was? What's wrong with you people? It's a waste product, not supposed to be imbibed.

Filthy disgusting habit,that.
RSS is marketing cow urine soda. We look like savages. Does anyone even care about our dignity?

things to be brought back to india
by pranab roy on Mar 10, 2009 03:00 AM  | Hide replies

Sheetal ji has given a long list of articles which should have to be brought back as they are taken away by the british.

even five years back i also had the same opinion.but when in 2004 the nobel prize medal with other valuable articles pertaining to rabindranath tagore, the first indian and asian nobel prize winner vanished into the thin air in the shantiniketan museum,i have changed my opinion.in all these years our hopeless intelligence has failed to recover these articles.it is rumoured that these articles are now in bangladesh.many years ago a massive theft also occuered in the red fort meuseum.every year a large number of valuable antique idols get stolen and smuggled out of india.that way the artcles mentioned by sheetal ji are more safe in uk.it has been put in the best meuseuns of uk with utmost care and security.every year lakhs of visitor see and praise these articles.i am sure if koh-i-noor is brought back to india the original will get stolen and government will put a replica in its place.

I would say it would be better if those things of Gandhi or said to be of Gandhi had been thrown down into the Pacific Ocean. Now that Vijay Mallya brought them to India I would like somebody throw those away into the Indian Ocean.

Pranab roy, In a way you are correct.
there are also jewels stolen from tak mahal.
concave mirror stolen from (I think) red Fort.
from which Shah Jahan used to see the Taj when imprisoned there. it has now been replaced with a fake mirror.
Not only that British also wanted to cut Taj Mahal into pieces and plant it on the banks of river Thames opposite the houses of Parliament.
Only the main building would was to be planted therst was to be sold as scrap marble to the public.
An experimental slabs were sent to UK but failed to be sold.
This saved the taj as useless monument to be exported since no one was interested in Marble.
Even now very little marble or other natural stone is used since it stays very cold in winter.
Cold weather in UK lasts for nearly 8 months.
There are lots more which space does not allow to be listed.

by Razzaq ahmed on Mar 10, 2009 01:27 AM

Why did congress don't care for Gandhi's teachings and JUST show off that they are true and original followers of Gandhi.....
I am sure Gandhi haven't taught them to butcher 10000 sikhs in delhi.....

Gandhi was against liquor sales and he instructed people not to be drunkard. But this liquor seller purchased Gandhi belongings.

what worst is that ambika soni said that govt approached Malya and he was acting on behalf on UPA Govt. Is he the only person UPA elect to work on behalf of govt as they are not allowed to bid directly according to supreme court.

Malya already rejected the statement given by ambika soni, claiming it as UPA victory. Cheap politics over gandhi
