My father was a freedom-fighter. When he expressed his willingness to Gandhiji to start a news paper to support the Freedom Movement, Gandhiji told him that he should not publish any advertisement of liquor & tobacco. My father agreed to Gandhiji’s conditions and started the paper and kept his promise till he was in charge of the News paper. Once he had to sell the gold chain he was wearing to purchase printing paper. Now that paper is one of the leading news papers in India. What a shame and disgrace to the Father of the Nation that the present Sonia Congress entrusted a person who acquired wealth by selling liquor, to buy back Gandhiji’s personal belongings from an auctioneer. It is a sad reflection on the present Congress party’s lack of moral scruples. . I was wondering why suddenly Congress Govt. is showing interest in cultivating pub culture ? This is one way Congress Govt. can indirectly remunerate the person who spent billions of money to buy back the articles.

RICH AND POWERFUL DOESN'T MEAN ANY THING. MODESTY AND MORALS ARE MORE IMPORTANT. TODAYS INDIA NEED A COMPLETE OVERHAUL. WE DON'T NEED THIS FAKE LADY TO RULE INDIA. WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH THIS BEFORE. If there are MEAN MENTALITY people like you in this country, the country can never make progress, what is wrong in selling Legal liqour, he is a tax payer, but remember before you point finger at him who has saved India's pride, you should shoot the politicians who snatch the food from a beggar and pile up huge amounts in Swiss banks to spend on wine and women and when such things come like the Tippu's Sword or India's pride these people keep quite now people like you point finger at Mr. Mallya whom we should salute, Pub culture may be supported by the congress but the 95percent of Pub owners in Karnataka and Maharastra are from the BJP

Time to bring back (not buy back)the Indian relics stolen by British. 1) Kohinoor. 2) Maharaja Ranjit Singh's Gold Throne. 3)crown of Maharaja Ranjit Singh with various swords and other fighting gears. 4)Crest of Guru Gobind Singh. 5) Clock work wooden roaring Lion killing a white man belonging to Tipu Sultan. All above items and many more stolon by British and now on display in Victoria and Albert museum London. 6) Riggh vedda granth from Germany. (how did it get there I do not know) 70 Takhat-e-Tause or Peacock throne,The Peacock Throne also known as Takht-e-Tavous or "Mor Sinhasan" was made for the Mughal Emperor Shahbuddin Mohammed Shah Jahan,January 5,1592 – January 22,1666) was the ruler of the Mughal Empire in India from 1628 until 1658 in the 17th century.Now located in the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul.(How it reached there I do not know.) Would congress make arrangements for all the above items to be return to India. They were not gifted to Brittan but were stolen from India. All of the above is Indian property.

Regarding the Peacook Throne, Nader Shah invaded India and defeated Farroukh Siyyar (I think) and carried it back with him to Persia. It is indeed a wonder how the Throne went to Istanbul.
Regarding your contention about the other items were 'stolen' it is a point of view. The other side will say that 'they are spoils of war'.
Just because we got defeated during various invasions, we lost all these items. That is a fact of life we have to live with.
Look at the Jews. They were kicked around for centuries and now they live in pride and repulse any attacks living around the jihadis. They do not ask for any repatritaion from any one!
We should also become strong like them and not ask for things that were stolen from us when we were weak. What has happened has happened. Now will any one dare to attack us with our military strength?

If Gandh1 was stupid enough not to drink. that does not mean others should not. He is no one to dictate others what to do and what not. if he did at the time, that may have been okey, but times have changed he has been dead and buried nearly 70 years go. It is time to bury his policies as well and move forward. Come and see in the west no Indian cares about Gandhi or his policies. Gujarati are most seen in pubs in UK after Punjabi's. And enjoy they do. HOW DOES ANY ONE KNOW HE DID NOT DRINK IN SERCRET.

You consider Gandhi in very same sense as a person with less than 50 IQ does. No surprise. He has inspired a nation called South Africa ... he inspired Civil Right movement in the west. And if you still want an example he inspired a nation called "India" to stay together no matter the circumstance is. If arms had been an answer then I could easily we would not have been any better than our neighboring countries.
Hope your 50 IQ helps in sinking in at least a bit of this. He is much better than any individual who is writing here and surely better than any politician in the world.

To all my friends who are blasting this great soul, pls be reminded we are now able to do this because of few people like him.
Freedom that we enjoy today to critisize our army, our freedom fighters and our politicians has come through the ideoligies propelled by one man - Mr. Gandhi.
I hope sense prevails and people become more sensitive and esponsible when we critisize someone.
When we see Slumdog Millionaire winning Oscars, we complain about India's poverty being exhibitioned. When an Indian industrialist buys back Gandhiji memorabilia outbidding the rest of the world...we still complain. We Indians need to get out of this 'crabs in the basket' mindset and see India as a new world power and stop grumbling about the rich people. If the people really dont like Mallaya then stop drinking his beer brand. That would also be enough anti national. He has made his money from Indian liquor and bought back Gandhi memorabilia he has done India a favour.

i dont see any harm in mallya buying these memorable things for india but i would request all political parties not to take advantage by saying we told mallya to buy it ,all paties had the money to buy it but no one took the step especially congress,its a shame congress
