Why am I not surprised that Mumbai slows down these days with even the HINT of heavy showers ? I was abslutely unfazed that my train ride betw C'gt and MCentral this morning at 10 am took over half an hr !!
Our "authorities" are SOOOO BUSY with skywalks these days and projects like the Metro that are already two decades too late that widening existing pipelines and augmenting stormwater drainage gets dumped on "availability of CentGovt funds". In the interim let more and more hi-rises come up, without any improvement in road and drainage conditions.
Such a sorry state of India's most popular city. Congress Govt has done nothing since 2005 to improve the infrastructure.Every year Mumbai is water logged even if 5 people spit together.

It is to be keep in your mind that Mumbai is a very old city and it was build with out any proper planning. It is difficult for any administration to deal with. Govt should impliment a policy for abolishing illegal slums, illegal construction etc.
Read today;s TOI - weather dept i.e.IMD predicted scanty showers over next 48 hours..nd immediately after rains they have changed it to heavy showers expected...what a joke
Even some remote villages look better after they are hit by thunderstorms.
Mumbai is the dumpyard of India. I wonder which city is worse. Mumbai or Kokata?
A while back somebody was saying that Mumbai will rival Beijing and Shangai in terms of development. Right now the only rival city for Mumbai is another dump city Kolkata.

I agree when you say remote villeges look better than Mumbai ... But this is bcos idiots from remote villages migrate to Mumbai and dump the whole city. Its a known fact that most people living in Mumbai slums are all outsiders. So the question is - Should we clean the city from these infected people?
Flood WATER does not recognises nor distiguishes between the Locals and Outsiders. They invade where ever the authorities show laxity in mansoon preparations. The state govt and the civic authorites together have contributed to this mess that mumbai is in today, by their nefracious and toxic connections with the builder lobby. The state govt is increasing the FSI with out adequate water reqmnt, sewage and storm water drain upgradation. So today we have residential towers with out enough water.
Now a days even if it rains for about 2 to 3 hrs mumbai come to a halt. This is not called heavy rains.Around 7 to 8 yrs back there used to be heavy rains in mumbai.Mumbai is becoming more and more concrete with new residential buildings, malls and offices.People in mumbai are becoming more and more greedy thirsty for money. This race of money has corrupted each and every one of us from within. This outcome has reflected on mumbai that we find garbage everywhere, overcrowded streets, people urinating anywhere in a vacant place, throwing garbage. Not even a single politician has the will power who can stand up and say that i can clear this mess in mumbai reason is even they are not bothered as they are stuck to their chairs.Money is filled in their pockects.Even the people in mumbai are responsible for the mess each and every street is getting overcrowded day by day.The day is not far when there will be no greenery left in mumbai under the name of progress.

rains are associated with water logging...without water logging in some areas we will feel left out of mother nature blessings....the media is making a mockery of the rainy season...if rains they cry...no rains they still cry
