Convinced our Diaspora that India cares
by narayan rajwade on Jan 05, 2009 05:34 PM  Permalink

IT is heartening to note that Minister in charge is apprachable on Mobile and that he is trying to get some legislation through to solve lot of problems of the sufferers like not getting salary / living conditions in the Middle East of the NRI population .
Parliamentarians should acknowledge this aspect of the situation and must act in earnest to create a satisfactory working condition.

Good work. If all this is true and sincere then I really appreciate it. We shud get over the habit of criticizing each n every thing, thats the reason why even ppl with good intentions hesitate to do something for the society.

Voting Rights for NRIs?
by jfu on Jan 05, 2009 05:11 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Where is the Voting Rights for NRIs?

NRIs are treated as second grade citizens.

Everyone wants their money, the politicians want to visit the countries they live in, at govt exps, and yet no voting rights.

It is rightly said NRI means Non-Required-Indian!

No wonder NRIs often ask, 'what is there for us in India.'

well...I am not sure how much will this help.
NRIs are already pursued by political parties for there money and if they have voting rights they will pampered even more.
I am not an NRI and I have no clue how much consideration they have for India or will they take as much interest in Indian politics as US presidential election(for Indian Americans).

On a lighter note...believe me...voting right doesnt change much in India. Most of the so called high class ppl dont wont and all politics is ruled on basis of religion, caste, region etc.

Are you a citizen of India?

And your cynicism isn't funny. In case of all its fault, India will remain your home. If you find something wrong, get up and do something about it rather than sit and complain that no one is doing anything.

I am surprised by your last sentence. I have't met a NRI who has said that to me (except the absolute desperate ones who can see nothing in this world beyond the dollar).

I have personally met this Minister. One thing i cqn vouch he is approchable and kind person. Which are not a common qualities of our (Indian) ministers.
But that does not means he is help ful in resolving NRI 's core problems and issues. He admits he cannot provide any security to our investments (unlike same to army personals) but still encourages us (NRI) to invest in motherland at your own risk.
