honestly, what exactly has sone done that thousand other firangi photographers or documentry filmmakers havent- portray india's poverty and sexual frustration?
someone else in the forum rightly said that she is one woman whose creativity has dried up.
and she calls herself one of the Class A directors in Hollywood!!! not that i have high regards for them, but Meera sure doesnt have a place there.
I mean, other than Indians living abroad, who else watches her films???
99 percent of so called our leaders are traitors of the highest order...India can never progress in the current system...it needs an iron hand monarchy by a true patriot for the next 50 years to just stem the rot..
Meera Nair is making movies that Indians in foreign countries can relate to. I fully agreed with India abroad when they say she is bridging the gap between Indians and other races. After watching Meera Nair's and Deepa Mehta's movies India is seen in different light. They are making real movies about real people and everybody is interested to watch these movies.

Ann! you call Deepa Mehta a filmmaker? She is basically a merchant who knows how to sell her ware. The type of movies she makes make me think if she is on the payroll of institutions that are out to slander the Indian society. I would not be surprised if she is on the payrolls of a foreign-based Christian missionary or some Jihadi Groups

in this case, i agree. Mira Nair makes films with honesty. Deepa Mehta is just a cheap publicity hound.
A perverted lady, does not have any responsibility to her ancient heritage, can not show light to a nation, instead destroyes prestige of our motherland to foreigners to get simple clapping.
She is shame for indians. I know my motherland has problem but I never ever would take that to foreigners to get cheap prize, instead if possible I will do a little to my motherland.
There are thousands of indians working abroad to raise the prestige of india, sending millions of dollars to theirs villages, donating women organisations but nobody claimed for cheaper clapping...

Namesake is such a creative movie to watch. We have to encourage these outstanding creative people so that India can be recognized in other countries. What ever pervertedness you are talking about was part of the story and ties in very nicely to show the real emotion. Salam Bombay, Hollywood Bollywood, Namesake were outstanding movies to watch. People running around the tress, singing uselessly is not my idea of a good movie. How much nudity they are showing in Bollywood movies ? What about these items songs in Bollywood movies ?

Anirban,u always have the option of NOT WATCHING the movies by this so called PERVERTED LADY.U r also free to brand her as whatever u wish to...Freedom of speech. What wud people like u call a true Indian film maker?Patriotic at that...one who shows India in the true light? And what exactly is the true light?Only NRIs sending money back to India?Waht abt the India based film makers? Are they not doing enough to sabotage the image of India as it is?A commercial hindi movie on an average has about 5-7 songs(mostly never ever needed),coupled with ridiculous ,hightech fight sequences in scenic locations.Of course there will be a half clad heroine, showing off her assets,in the best possible way.Is that your India? Mira Nair has never advocated to portray India..she is not India brand ambassador. Her work incidentally is mostly based on books.Yes..they are on Indians..mostly NRIs.But she is not trying to drive any point home...mostly reflecting some prevailing conditions in the lives and minds of people living abroad...mainly Indians.NAMESAKE ...every NRI wud have identified at some point or the other. She is not a documentary film maker. I think she is one of those film makers who has very successfully blended the western and the Indian actors in her movies. One thing always stands out in her movies..a feeling of OPTIMISM....in todays'India...its needed a lot to survive.

Here we talk about India abroad person of the year. Indians residing in india are not included. What they are doing for India is much greater than what Indians doing for India sitting abroad. I never meant that.
Indian film is not those rubbish movies, they are made to make black money white, showing up that they have made more profit than they actually make. Do not forget that other than those utter rubbish movies hunderds of very good movies are coming up. Do not forget regional movies, they contributed more to indian fame than booby hindi movies which are also meant to satisfy its middle east sponsors.
A true indian filmmaker is like Satyajit Ray and several regional film makers who picks up bad sides of the social aspect but shines a great light on that, when you come back, you get a message. Light is there, if one can not shine light, he/she does not have any right to create sensation in the name of .....
Have you gone deeply inside NRIs? If you are NRI, and know many others, please remember they hide their deep materialistic attitude and shameless passion for foreign land with the logic of proper infrastructure for growth. Finally they suffer for their decision. You please talk more with your NRI friends and be neutral you will find how their eyes gllitters when they talk about their foreign lands.
But there are different aspects of this problems. A good movie is one which picks up multi-dimensional aspects of a problem not a straight line.

I am sorry to say you have no idea in fact NONE about how NRIs feel and why they are ,where they are. Its is not easy to define a good movie along the lines of geometry.A good movie might also be one which deals with one single major problem..well treated...well enacted...good direction..good photography and so on. And u r absolutely missing one point here...the award is for INDIAN ABROAD. And last but not the least a good movie maynot always be one with a MESSAGE...it might be one which touches your heart..thru sentiments...entertainment...or purely becos ,well...cos its well made.

No,Water happens to be part of a trilogy of movies by another director called Deepa Mehta.
Two million children in India die and turn into statistics every year.
I have seen the both sides of sub saharan as well indian country side. There is so much similarity between Africa and India that this report has has not surprised me at all.India is as currupt as African states are and still we feel and act as superior human beings and humilate Africans. Will your report make a differece????Whole India stinks and we are most uncivil people in the world...people children will keep on dying....nothing will change in India rising ....few people benefits from the currupt system .I have studied in village and till now the school has not changed even after 20 years...
It is shocking to see that none has commented on this issue so far. Damn it. Who has the time to comment on trifles like these in this age of nuclear energy debates, wardrobe malfunction, and dog shows.

I am agree with you Jaleel, India is the only place where political parties are ruling the people and country both by appeasing the several groups. This is too bad.I don't see the clear cut vision for the development vision and mission.Population is cucontrolled. Also I studied in the village primary school, yet no change in building or learning facilities...
