People are thinking she is a traitor and anti nationalist but as an artist one belongs to humanity and truth. They have to bring real issues in front of people which are above the national boundaries. I think Meera Nayar thinks outside the box and is gifting us with excellent art which goes right to your heart.

Salam Bombay and Namesake. May be as a man you can not relate to these movies but us women can. How come every time a woman gets an award or recognition all the men have their backs up against the wall ?

That was uncalled for Ann. a lot of men have complimented Mira Nair. The awards were also presented by men.
They have never worked for india. They are just syncomfants of west . some foreign powers want to distroy goals of india to third class issues. India should concentrate on people which make india to stant on its feet.
Mira Nair richly deserves this award. The criticisms aimed at her in this discussion board is unfortunate and uncalled for. It shows average Indians still have little knowledge about good films, steeped as they are in hopelssly absurd mainstream Bollywood films.

not much credit we give to bollywood for quality and reality. but mira nair's work is even worse and almost shameful.
Here is the report on India Abraod Person Award for the year 2006 under http://www.rediff.com/news/2007/mar/24iapoy.htm "The evening, hosted by Columbia University Professor Sreenath Sreenivasan, began with the publisher of India Abroad (a subsidiary of Rediff.com India in the United States) Ajit Balakrishnan extolling the virtues of the Indian-American community."
In this report, you say "Hosted by Columbia Professor Sreenath Sreenivasan, the evening began with Ajit Balakrishnan, publisher of India Abroad, the oldest Indian-American weekly, owned by rediff.com, lauding the winners and the Indian-American community's achievements."
It appears your New York reporter repeats his reports with some minor changes year after year changing only the name of the Awardee. If he is so lazy, find yourself someone who can provide variety in reporting
To be a popular filmmaker, one has to become popular first and then a filmmaker! women like Mira Nair and Deepa Mehta are overrated creations of the Indian media. They depend more on the media hype than the quality of the movies they make!
