Something to contemplate
by Vikram on Jun 03, 2008 12:42 PM  | Hide replies

Construction of a 1000 ft Bharat Mata statue with a surrounding museum containing artifacts, and other historical remnants detailing the history of various regions of India can be a good exercise. People from all backgrounds and regions can be included in the project. It will be a worthful exercise towards national integration. Something to ponder.

Leaving aside communal angels as put by sick people there is no doubt Shivaji was great warrior, Moreover he was great Human as far as history is known. Sick people put communal perspective in everything but shivaji was having lots and lots of Muslim also in his troop and by most of accounts known about him was not a communal king.

Very Well said, Shivaji had massive number of muslim soldiers and Shivaji was secular there is no doubt about it !! If Shiv Sena had half the seculiarist qualitities of Shivaji, they would be ruling India if not Maharashtra !!!

Waste of money
by deven hulk on Jun 03, 2008 12:22 PM  | Hide replies

Another political gimmick to fill vote banks. So many problems already there, bad roads, water, electricity and many more, and the government wants to spend money on a 300 ft statue. I am not against Sivaji. Agreed he was a great ruler and a great maratha, but i dont see the purpose of this statue other then fooling sentimental idiots and filling vote banks.

Shivaji - The great warrior
by True Indian on Jun 03, 2008 11:43 AM  | Hide replies

Hi all,
I would req. all not to comment about Shivaji as its very close to all Marathi people. beleive me, what we have been tought about Shivaji, is just ten percent of his life. Specially bcose the center is ruled by congress for so long and they dont want this part of history to be known to others sp. north indian.
1) It was shivaji, who during moguls was the first king who successfuly formed his own kingdom and was always a challenge to aurangeb.
2) Shivaji's son, Sambhaji was so powerful, that after Shivaji's death, and after knowing that his mom was the one who poisoned shivaji, pushed her in a crack of wall and kill her.
3) About Sambhaji, he was in love with Aurangjeb daughter. Aurangjeb, after shivajis death arrested Sambaji, and tortured him and asked him to change his religion to Islam. When Sambhaji did not budged, his body skin, eyes were removed. Including his penis was sharpened. Finally the cell inspector, in pity killed sambhaji.
3) It was due to shivaji, that marathas(after shivaji, were peshwas) kingdom was so widely spread form UP to half of southern India. He laid the foundation stone for this. Reason for this success is never tought in any history book till today. and remember whereever marathas conquered, they never destroyed local culture.
4) Maratha fought the battle of Panipat in north India against East India co for freedom of India. Since then, they started shrinking and were pushed till MP (Gwalior). This part is never tought in history books.

Ofcourse yes... not like you, who go and vote for those who follow Italians.
Though marathas, tipu sultan.. or any one else fought for their own kingdoms, but it was for their motherland. Tell me how many kings from north india fought against Mugals or east india company... Name any 10. Thats where you stand. If you dont know the answer then ask center government, why you were not taught this.

Well true Indian, Marathas had sided with the British and Nizam when they were conquering. Only later Lokmanya Tilak or Veer Savarkar fought the british in their own ways. Also do not forget that father of Shivaji was a loyal personnel of Muslim army. Shivaji revolted when attrocities increased inspired by his mother. If you are a true Indian read the whole history of India. Rani Laxmibai, so many rajput kings, Bengal kings all fought the british. And read about Sikhism how some Muslim rulers were fought against. The point is not to belittle anyone but to let you know all throughout India there were a fair share of freedom fighters, reformers as well as traitors so dont look at it from regional or communal perspective only.

True Indian you want every one to know that Sambhaji's penis was sharpened. DO you want to read this in history book? Will I didn't know, how Shivaji died. So that can be included in the text book. But does this act makes him a powerful king? I this this is what aniruddha meant to say.
Shivaji is viewed as a powerful hindu king against the tyranny of Muslims. This makes him very popular all over India.

Shivaji Maharaj is the pride of India and not just Maharashtrians. He offered hope and courage at the time of the Mughla onslaught. His achievements are innumerable and all Indians take great pride in him. lets celebrate the occasion.

Its only right that a museam be started in this prupose although it comes a bit late.

Opposition to these will always be there - its best ignored.

Hail King Shivaji.

Mr. Aniruddha,
Can you give me some proofs which say Shivaji Maharaj was a dacoit? I donnt know why are you getting your personal EGO in between .... If you think we are wasting money here then we are wasting our own money ... money of government of Maharashtra ....
As far As Vidarbha Farmers are considered then they are already gievn lots of money (On papers) but the real problem over there is psycological and government is tackling it by taking help of NGOs to boost there confidence .... rest all is easy to say .. why dont you start one of them to implement on you own ...

by dhananjay rane on Jun 03, 2008 11:28 AM  | Hide replies

To build a statue of Shivaji Maharaj is a decision taken by Maharashtra Govt. It is entirely an internal issue of Maharashtra and its people. Maharashtra is already contributing a lot to central government in terms of revenues then what is wrong if it thinks of spending 200 Crores of its own share for creating a monument of a great leader of Maharashtra.
I am an Indian and I always take India before Maharashtra. But there are some people who because of there own ego problem, talk absurd about some great personalities like Shivaji Maharaj without even making an attempt to know who he was.
I liked this idea of statue. It will be a nice tourist spot and an inspiration for youth. The money invested can be earned back from tourism. And I think along with infrastructure we should build monument like this. If Shahajahan had thought about the cost and usefullness before building Taj Mahal , he would have never built it.

Mr.Dhananjay....Whatever Maharashtra gives to the centre is the hardearned money of indians from diffrent parts of india have come and gathered...so the money is not the personal property of SS,MNS or even Congress....

Every Indian is proud of shivaji. But the problem is, your senas in Maharashtra are hijacking the greatness of the Indian hero for their political gain by converting him into a regional hero. Your senas are trying to unite Marathis against non-Marathis by regionalising sivaji's legacy and selling it to Marathis. CM Deshmukh is doing nothing but just trying to sell Sivaji to Marathis under his own banner to beat the senas. He would care least for any ideology.
