Our wild nature irrtate westerners.
by bihari babu on Feb 29, 2008 11:16 PM

Westerners who come to india, i have spoken to many of them, they say India really sucks. Mainly the people's behaviour. They are so self centered and insensitive to the others. They are good from heart though. But they have no training in decent public behaviour. Look at the traffic, foot path. Its all jammed. Because certain people have no understanding or senstivity on good public behaviour.

"DO YOU HAVE COMPUTERS AND INTERNET IN INDIA?"
I just laughed and laughed, and talked of our competence in IT and how internet is made accessible to lots of people in our Great country

India

Dhruv---Indeed you have done a good job of explaining. There is a tendency in these so called "developed" countires somehow others who don't belong to North Amerca, Europe, Japan and Australia/NZ(called collectively "western" whther they are in the west or not) are a rag tag marauding lot!!They use third world in derogatory way. It is high time the uneducated people in these "western" countires that their days of privilege are numbered and India and China will give a good taste of their own medicine in the next few decades. One symptom is the way people are crying foul when they lose jobs to what they refer as "third world countires like India". They refuse to learn and acknowledge world is a big place and there are many good things from all parts of the world not just "western world" at their own peril!!Anyway if they think India has no roads or planes it is their problem not ours!!!

Dhruv,
you have really done a great job!! I know sometime s its frustrating but we have to deal with it!! When I came here in US first time, many times I was questioned similarly Do you have car back hom? Do you planes? (I replied, no I walked all the way from there :))...The most hilarious one "Do you guys eat monkey Brain?" (shown in Indian Jones movie)...so it's funny if you think about it now but considering you age I think you have done a very good job of answering them!! Keep it up!!!

Are these not conditions of anarchy and chaos?
by Gautam nil on Feb 29, 2008 07:18 PM

1) Present education teaches only 2 2 = 4, without culture, power to imagine, judicially decide, due to which educated tremble before society's problems!
2) Present medical science is barbaric on the name of science as most of the treatments to variety of diseases are failures though, it is claimed only some advanced cases of cancer are not cured! 3) Present judicial system takes two to three decades to decide a simple case of land lord/tenant dispute whereas the telecom authorities, rationing authorities and police etc., decide such cases within days! Other aspects of present judiciary support acts of vested interests, encouraging corruption. 4) Public distribution system caters mostly supplies only to a part of right customers leaving others to guess or to poor quality supplies! 5) Politics play a vital roll in security and other benefits due to public.
6) Every where corruption. 7) Agriculturists commit suicide or starve in large numbers.
8) When food items are scarce, they are imported at higher costs than that are locally available. 9) High ranking officers don't move to the field, but work on table with mostly false statistics. 10)National exchequers drain by ways of large number of scams that are not recovered but taxes are levied to compensate for the losses.

Where is the nation leading to?
by Gautam nil on Feb 29, 2008 07:16 PM

India is fully democratic to permit violence, crime, nepotism, corruption and any harm to any one freely, perhaps in literal meaning of Independence! Credit goes to the system of democracy as it stands at current situation! Failure to fire the "course correction rockets" at the appropriate times by the politicians and beaurocrats resulted in the drift of democratic principles due to fast moving times!
Though such a drastic situation, not only continues uninterrupted appropriately, but also accelerates to go off from the intended course of progress! Vested interests navigate the system to their selfish benefits crippling lives of large majority of the country men leading to total anarchy and chaos in the nation! The rulers 'play violin when nation is in flames'! Nation is entirely breaking! The so called enlightened and elite do contribute their might either by amassing benefits by any means or by just remaining silent spectators! The ones at the realms of the affairs of nation manage to keep the brilliant off from affairs of nation! Many other so called elites suffer from brain drain! Where is our nation leading to is to be decided by large number of the people of the country, before it is too late as time is running out!

Dear Dhruv- That is why I do not live in Texas- Most States south of Washington DC are infested by idiots- no wonder Bush was voted in by the Florida idiots. I worked in Florida for few years and moved to Boston. I rather shiver in the cold than put up with Southern Christian bums who think of Hinduism as a Pagan belief. Do your best to educate your classmates. Things are actually improving in USA in regard to the status of India, thanks to our techies. Few years ago, most Americans did not even know where India is located.

The problem with kids growing up in USA- they are taught everything Ameri-centric, starting with the way the globe is depicted: Planet face showing only the Americas! No other continent. Consequently, Americans grow up knowing nothing about other countries.

You should be congratulated. Great job.

good job dhruv and well written...
I would also like to say that misconceptions about are rampant even in Europe. I have come across many europeans who think of India as a country of poor people or land of snake charmers. But then again most of our beliefs about the West are not accurate... we all form our opinions based on what we learn at school or see in films, and the truth more often than not is what we think. Our job as Indians living outside India is to try and dissolve these misconceptions and represent the dignity and richness of our country and culture.
