Why the hell all of you are talking of a STORY. Ramayana & Mahabharat are stories written to teach some lessons and to outline some of the practices in some (tribal) communities existed then. Rama Setu has two dimensions. One is a geological feature, almost like a collapsed canyon below the ocean. The other is a structure clearly evidenced by bore-well studies, built between two layers of sediments. This built structure is the bridge, the setu. Setu in all bharatiya languages means: artificial bund. Hence the name Setubandha. The English word %u2018bund%u2019 comes from the bharatiya word %u2018bandha%u2019. In Kambaramayana in Tamil there is a separate sarga titled Setubanda padalam. The construction is described vividly in 85 s%u2019lokas by Valmiki and also in sculptures of Prambanan, Indonesia. The earlier sarga also refers to Rama unleashing an arrow which strikes a volcano and tsunami erupts. Hence, the geological fact of mannar volcanics found in the Rama Setu region. There are coral reefs only west, south-west of Rama Setu and NOT in the Bay of Bengal Park Straits side. This demonstrates that the geological feature was a divide between two seas of the Hindumahaasaagar, Indian Ocean.

(in ramayan, its mentioned that Nal & Neel were 2 members of the army who actually worked on these stones before depositing them)

I agree with you Bharat.Burying amounts to decomposition first. This process takes place for a long time and there is a chance of disease spread if the decomposed comes in contact with air whereas burning entirely destroys the tissues immediately and nothing is left for decomposition. Morover, all the indian rivers are polluted not because of Hindu's way of cremation but of industrial wastes particularly from leather industries where the chemically processed animal wastes other than skin are washed in rivers including Ganges. I think people like Abdul Majeed etc are in this forum just to provoke hindus by giving unscientific claims.
This issue purely related between the faith of Hindus and development. Why people like JGN and others drag Islam in between. We Indian Muslims do not ask any one to destroy Ramsethu to discriminate the belief of Hindus. ramankutty, even if I am an RSS man you cannot do anything about that. Hinduism is not a religion in its narrow sense. We are not bound to follow something written in a book thousands of years back nor do we beleive that all those who do not subscribe to the dogmas of hinduism will "burn in hell fire for ever". Most of the beleiving hindus do not ridicule the gods of other religions as they belive that god is one and as such show respect for the gods of other religions also.
