Reservations on Cricket 11 and in Bollywood too
by on Apr 15, 2008 01:11 PM

It is unfair that OBCs are not adequately represented in these areas. These areas are bastions of upper caste privilege. I hope Parliament passes legislation to rectify this immediately.

by sameer on Apr 14, 2008 08:23 PM  | Hide replies

supreme courts decision of upholding reservation for obc's is more of political one , i find i strange that by provision of reservation in higher education will bring social equality! when drop out rate from schools is alarmingly high in those sections of society for which reservation is actually aimed , people benefiting from it are already in a position that they dont require it . only good thing about this judgment was exclusion of creamy layer! there is need to strengthen basic education which can bring some change in society. there should be reservation (if at all) on basis of economic criteria and definitely not caste based criteria , all weaker sections(i.e. economically) of society should get reservation .In name of providing social equality through reservation political parties are just further dividing already fragmented society , it seems congress has never left colonial mindset and policies and still playing "divide and rule" card. GOD help our country!

Sameer, All thoughtful Indians should wake up to the "Divide, Win elections, and Rule" policies of the Congress Party, which they have followed with great success in the last 55 years. They have unleashed emotions [ you can see an example in this "nameless" "dude" who is threatening you with eviction from India - Can you imagine, he has no courage to reveal his name even ] raised expectations, but WITHOUT meeting any of their socio-economic targets. They think it is a "game". But what they must note: Many states in India now have "single caste" based political parties. TamilNadu is a leading example. The Congress has frozen the caste system into PERMANENCE in India. Politics of caste has become a permanent feature of India. That is a tragedy. Those from castes that are not "Vote Banks" must seriously consider EMIGRATING from India to join overseas Indian communities who are doing pretty well in most countries of the world. They have a better quality of life, good education for their children, clean surroundings, no need to pay bribes at government offices and most people drive sensibly on good roads, without pot holes or stench. Indian culture is practised better in these countries. For creative people who are in "minority castes" that is they are NOT in enough numbers to be seen as vote banks, Emigration is possible as long as they have diplomas or degrees in areas needed by the host governments. All information can be found in the NET.

India is democracy....and NOT 'meritocracy' like Singapore or Taiwan.
by usa on Apr 14, 2008 05:50 PM  | Hide replies

Hence it is imperative to appreciate 'cultural' aka 'caste' diversity in all temples in India.

Government of India should implement 'reservations' in all Indian temples as per the 'caste' census in India.

1. 52% of all temple staff including Pujaris/Priests should be from OBC communities.
2. 29% temple staff including Pujaris/Priests should be from Dalits and Tribals.
3. Remaining all temple staff including Pujaris/Priests should be from other castes.

Real problem
by Ram Sharma on Apr 14, 2008 04:21 PM

The real problem of the country is population boom. We have to import huge quantity of wheat, Dal (lintel), Crude oil etc for the increasing population. In 1947 the combined population of India, Pakistan and B'desh was 33 crores. Now only our population is about 105 crores. Whereas the land and all other natural resources r same as before. They r limited. In addition to increase in population, the per capita fuel and power consumption is also increasing very fast. All this has caused vast degradation of natural resources. Water and air have got polluted. Sub soil water table has gone down everywhere. There was no bottled water 15 years ago, but due to pollution, bottled water is becoming a norm. Roads of all big and small towns r jammed with traffic. Forest land is getting depleted. Many plant and animals r getting extinct. Global warming is taking place.

The solution is forcefully enforcing one child norm on the lines of China, who started this policy in 1979 together with opening up its economy. It is worth mentioning here that land area of China is many times that of ours. Had China not done so, there would have been a few crore more people on the earth.

Most of the religious leaders foolishly ask people of their religion to have more children. It is catastophic. They should know that God and Nature do not distinguish on the basis of religion.

The population of developed countries has already stabilised. Other countries also need to stabilise their population.

Racist India
by Raj on Apr 14, 2008 06:51 AM  | Hide replies

Racism is finishing from world over but its being encouraged in India, sixty years have passed by....from 10% the reservations have reached to 27%, in Govt jobs almost 90%, still the malady is there....maybe after 100 years of independence, when there will be 100 % reservations the malady will be even more prominent. The really deserving/intelligent students will go abroad on a scholarship and will come back to lead India and its Industries. Maybe IIM and IIT's will be no more relevant than, and anybody who has done his MBA and High tech education in India will not get a job anywhere. Long live Rasism and Long live its messiah Arjun Singh.
FOR ARJUN SINGH : your overtures will still not transform into votes for Congress. Cos Mayavati will take them All

Reservations
by human on Apr 13, 2008 08:15 PM

Reservations were necessary during initial independent india days, as there were not much opportunities for schooling etc..
My question is if you are a student trying to pass an exam for 60yrs and still fail to secure 60% whats the sense of following the same exam cracking method?? It applies to reservations system also.

The reservatioins in current form based on such trivia as caste, doesnt do any good even if implemented for next 60 or 100 yrs. We need to take bold steps of implementing reservation on economics and rural standard basis. But caste politics will never let it come to open. I know many FC guys who are good at studies but cant afford professional education. How can we still mask over caste and keep cheating these otherwise good students.

The lady seems to have smoked chillum before writing this article. Why are such laughable "intellectuals" found only in India? Even a child can demolish her arguments. You can only go that far with intellectual dishonesty.

A lot of the so-called "intellectuals" in India are very easily subjugated by "political correctness". Their cowardice and posturing are learnt in institutions such as Jawahar Lal Nehru University. An old-style left-idealism is what makes them tick. The entire JNU produced chattering class, many of them a good part of the "poltical caste" in India, still have not a single original idea to make governance accountable for its poor performance in ALL areas of India's public life. All this "reservations" stunts are a substitue for good governance, in terms of primary, secondary education, basic health and transport infra-structure. Without India's private sector, India would have gone under around the 1960s. India has been badly governed, very badly governed BUT the political entities responsible for 60 years of FAILURE manage to get re-elected with stunts like these.

You can allow a horse to breed by giving proper atmosphere. But no matter whatever you do, you can not breed a mule. Sorry if it sounds rude but in simple term you can not gain anything from reservation. It has been over 60years that the reservation policy has been going on. Poor people are still poor, perhaps poorer. A farmer dies out of hunger. A SC/ST student has been still struggling to crack IIT with poor score. Whereas a brilliant no-caste student has been denied admission to an ordinary University! This is what the reservation is all about. It is good for no one but the incompetent cowards.
