'Morality has disappeared from India'
by S Rajendran on Feb 03, 2007 06:57 PM  | Hide replies

The canker of corruption has affected both the judiciary and the Armed Services and the sad thing is that nothing is being done about it. Army officers are increasingly on the take as much as judges in the judiciary and one hears the names of Supreme Court judges 'on sale' being bandied about. If this spreads, then the Republic of India is in deep trouble. Tragically, the current Government at the Centre has an Italian woman has the head of the main party leading the Coalition and even she as well as her secretary, V George are both reported to be on the take. It is not enough to say that one is not corrupt but it is more important to be seen as not corrupt. S Rajendran

Army and Militancy !!!
by Mahesh Nayathil on Feb 03, 2007 06:35 PM  | Hide replies

The army protects each country from invasions from Neighbours !! But if there is no army in a country then there are chances of attck from the neighbour !! But in Europe the defence expenditure is very less because the countires have made one economic group and one currency !! Similarly SAARC or association fo south asian countries can make rupee their common currency and make brother hood and allow free trade from one country to another ..
What is the army doing in Siachen Glacier in Coldest of all times becuse it is s atrtegic point.. I heard the expenditure is 2 to 3 crore per day.. Waht is the fun in sending an army to antartica or artica
But if there is surveillance then army staff can be cut and defence budget shrinked and they can be transferred to civilain works.. for examp[le what is army doing in Bnagalore where threat is less.. how many armed forces are there all over India .. The real work is done by surviellanmce wing and Border security force that is army at Borders.. Ithink such a huge armed force is due to the night mares of a world war repeating

it is beacuse of people like you that india lost so much land in kashmir in 1962. india's expenditure on armed forces is less than 3 percent of gdp.its still less than what is required.

Hi,
Very Good, if that works, we can divert those
money into national & world development & to
raise the poor from poverty etc. Sounds good to
hear. But we have tried in the past around 1962 & we learned, so, we decided to develop
our Army strong w/ nuke capability. Man is like
a monkey, believing a man don't resign your work & stay in home. Now this time we join last
after all countries reduce theirs!!!

Proportion of Morality!
by S Chandar on Feb 03, 2007 03:14 PM  | Hide replies

I bow to the General on what he said about career. Nowadays even armed forces has become a mere job market. Earlier it used to be a place where you can do good to the country.

But what I feel that the ration between moral and immoral activities does remain constant across time! Only the quantity increases as the total population also increases. This gives a picture that there are more and more immoral activities are happening only in present, which is not the fact.

What is sad is that, in spite of growing facilities in media and communication etc, common man cannot raise heis voice against these immoral acts. Either he changes himself to be one among them or safely chooses to be a neutral onlooker.

The think-tanks around should come out with a mechanism to bring the common man be more vibrant and voiceful when some thing goes wrong.

SopRaj, Bofars, Share Scam, etc are keep coming but none of them who seems to be reason for all these are put into bar. No legal action could be taken against them. They disappear just like their illegal acts do!

When common man's voice cannot be made audible, nothing can be done!

RE:Proportion of Morality!

Not true.

20 years ago, it was impossible to imagine that someone of minister level would be taken to court and tried for his corruption. Just look into history and tell how many ministers were tried?

Today private media has been allowed. Only because of this now these corruption cases are coming to public eyes. Otherwise people used to think there was no corruption 20 years ago because there was no media to expose!!

And since today there is media to expose so, people are thinking that corruption has increased !!!!

If you use your head, then you will realise that with media's role increasing after 1991, only thing that has gone up is "publication" and "vigilance" of corruption crimes! And people analyse it wrong way. Actual corruption has gone down.

20 years ago, my dad needed to pay bribe to BSNL for phone connection. Today, i pay nothing. M L Thapan call this "loss of morals" or progress????

Sorry sir, I don't agree to such negative views of an individual and I protest against it because he is pulling all indians including me too into it!

thank you.

example - shibu soren(A CABINET MINISTER) was convicted my court and sentenced to life.

this is just beginning. If media and people kept their pressure up, more things will change.

So M L Thapan is saying we are loosing morals or gaining it???

Blah!

Nehruism
by Arun reddy on Feb 03, 2007 03:00 PM  | Hide replies

Sardar Patel would have been first PM of India. Nehru was not a right fit for indian politics. All freedom fighters lost their wealth in freedom fighting except this Nehru family. Only God can save India from Nehru family. There in no wonder if we see Rahul or Priyanka as PM of India soon. we need a PM like Sri Lal bahadur Shastri to deal the Bangaldesh and Pakistan.

true.

I don;t appose rahul gandhi. But he should wait 20 years and work hard and learn the things before getting into dirty business of world geo-politics(part of job of Prime minister).

Otherwise he will make same mistakes like his young daddy rajiv.

correction - its better to have rahul gandhi IN than some uneducated dull person.

Though i would really like some indian in place of him who has spent his foundation years and education in india. It really makes one's view and psyche and sensitivities towards India.

Otherwise..he should wait 20 years.

True Reflection

A very Precise & Objective & Fair view of Army Role in by Lt Col Thapan. Very Forthright & open analysis.
Yes ,Indain Society needs morlity blended into very basic daily life in a very big way, else we will continue to witness :
1) Fear & Feudal system of Governance in Judiciary,Education,Religion & Medicine .
2) Road Rage by Animals
3) Naked display of skin all over & reducing lack of respect for women other than as objects of desire.
4) Non/least possible development of poor sections of society.

The only way out is to have more & more accountability with open, objective systems of governance & Retributions & penalities for violations & deviations.
For Those who make fun of morality as an old age thing please stop usuing Sunlight,Water & Air as those are also as old as existence.

There is difference between Beasts & Human beings.
Let us protect that always.

You mean we should ban movies like Murder because woman shows skin?

Whats next? Should we put salman khan into JAIL because he wear no shirt in movies which even little girls watch?

So, a woman showing "skin" in movies only brings wrong thoughts in your mind? If yes, then its a problem with your mindset.

Stop thinking like a junk! You want to reduce India to some mullah country?

Whats next? Impose sharia in india? LOL

Hi,
I feel the clothing issue should be regional
instead of religion.
It is wrong to show skin in Snow or during the
time of winter. As it is dangerous to the skin
& could die due to hydertherma!!!
But Indian climate is moderate, there is no
harm in wearing light dresses to escape from
the over buring heat in some cities. Think
democratic!!!
