SOUTH.... PASSIVE INDIVIDUAL STATES....NO ASCENDANT GROUP !!!
by ratnajayant gudavally on Dec 13, 2007 04:26 PM

The southern states are very conservative like each other. They can not do something unusual as a successful confederate. They like to gloat over their individual past, present and future.....May they prosper and not grapple with each other....orelse it will be a cutrhroat competetive conflict !!!

Hey Guys,

Please dont make this article as discussion forum, which leads to regional arguments rather blended cultural values and dont forget we all are Indians.

Kerala bias
by Mahesh on Nov 27, 2006 09:34 PM

The author has a very South..and to be more specific..a Kerala bias in his articles. I dont see Kerala doing well as far as economy, new industries, electrification, etc compared to the other three states. Education..certainly Kerala is ahead but whats the point? Most of the money is from the Middle East and not from indigenous industries.
And the comparison of SF to Trivandrum..dude take it easy man!!

Identity
by Jay on Nov 21, 2006 01:06 AM

In fact we must acknowledge the fact once mentioned my Amartya sen that we have a composite of identitites. For exapmle I am an Asian and at the same time an Indian, a south Indian, a Keralite, a man from Central travancore, a man from my native village and which a man from my home. Also I am Hindu, who believes in the coexistence of other religions. Thus if we count on we are defined by lot of identities. Anybody can write on any aspect of any of those facets of our identity. Also we can write on the existence of mankind as a whole and the problems faced by earth as a whole etc. Nobody needs to be particularly offened by this.

The rise of South India
by nagesh on Nov 16, 2006 05:29 PM

Thanks Rajeev for giving an overall, proud perspective of the South!! Telugu was court language even in Maharashtra, Tirumala Nayak built the beautiful temples of Madurai! Stocky Tamil boys came with the English to save the Kannada King's throne, Tamil is proudly the national languages in Singapore and Malaysia and spoken widely. Kerala has flooded the aroma of spices through out the world, since centuries, so also kalari n God's own culture.
Marathi was prevalent from the south to the north once. Karnataka crowned it all with her milk, silk, honey, gold, verdant forests and flowing rivers.
What is important, we are one of the oldest civilisation and we did a lot of good to who ever came our way.

Let us not look at Rajeev's bird's eye perspective with post mortem eyes. This peace and humility I have not experienced anywhere in the world. In years all will meld, as it is now there are Bengalis speaking fluent Tamil, Punjabis fluent Kannada and so on.
Let us learn to enjoy each others food, language, Borders and heroics are mostly a figment!! Let the fragrance of the sandalwood pervade every where.
More power to your armstrong, Rajeev.. Cheers

rajeev's ariticle on the south.
by A.S.Beg on Nov 16, 2006 11:30 AM

rajeev, you wrote a splendid clipping! it's a great thing he mentioned that nov 01 was the golden jubilee. 75% I agree with him. the cons were he shouldn' menion orrisa in his wish list. in m opinion, i didn't like the people; just like the BIMARU states. also, the 4 states he mentioned, he said karnataka is my favourite. Alhamdulilah, i have travelled the whole south, but i found that Karnataka, especially bangalore, is polluted a lot. i have been a resident there some months ago. to my dismay, I found that it is quite different from other south regions. it has also become a BIMARU state and it has lost its cultural flavour. the ethics and etiquettes are almost like the north. drop karnataka and add pondicherry to your list. go there, you will love it!

India
by guy next door on Nov 14, 2006 10:04 AM

Guys,

Think of this... if India were not be conquered by Europeans, it would still be seperate countries. So regardless of India being one country or not, each state or region is a distinct country as europe is. Our strenght is in untining this diversity. Rajeev is only proposing his views on South India. Why do you guys have to read between lines. I guess that is what we Indians are good at and not understanding others views. If anyone cane contibute constructively towards the topic, kindly do so but do not your vent anger here, you may find other places to do so.

Raaj
South and the North
by Raaj on Nov 13, 2006 01:23 PM

Rajeev's message is being over scrutinized and wrongly interpreted. He has written what he believes and knows. He never mentions that South is better than North or there was any word on Dravidian and Aryan. Most people of India are chauvinistic about their mother language. But does that stop us from being an Indian??? Sacrifices are made everywhere and everytime and by everyone as INDIAN and not on the basis of region or religion. We should be proud to count the contributions of Muslims (like Abdul Kalam), Sikhs (Bhagat Singh), Christians, Hindus and many more. Just because Rajeev wrote 4 paragraphs on Kerala 3 on Tamil, 1 on Karnataka and 2 on Andhra Pradesh doesn't mean that, that state with less paragraph description lacks something. The article to me reminds that before 1990s, states in the south weren't as good/ developed in some areas like infrastructure and facility as some states in the north. Now, it is growing good and the writer (Rajeev) relates the past and the present. To argue or linger on this subject with negative thought is nothing short of being foolish.

Intolerance towards south
by Saibaskar on Nov 13, 2006 11:30 AM

I read the article and it simply talks about South India's positives. There was nothing in it that was anti-north but the hue and cry raised by lot of people in their post, suggests intolerance for even mentioning positives about south. No wonder we are such a divided nation. I am a proud Indian, i love my country, state, city in that respective order. India is not India without my State and my language and Iam as Indian as anybody from north. Let all those northerners who seem to be so disturbed even about discussing positively about south understand that their stake in India is only as much as mine, no more or no less and together without prejudice or hatred we can build this country.
