Dear Rajeev,
I appreciate your views and description of south India in particular with kerala and tamilnadu(may be because of your ethnicity). Its a pity you did not know about other part of south India. These consitute the states of Karnatake,Andhra and maharastra. These form the integral culture of south central and deccan areas. Its because of the sacrifices of the chalukyas,Rastrkutas, marattas,Kaktiyas,Reddys and Viajayanagar kings that the entire south was protected from the onslaught of Arabs. Its because of these people the rest of south flourished great. Please have a little more study and then generalise that as south India rather than pushing only two states.
Sekhar

i fail to see how the sacrifices are related to the views presented by Mr. Rajeev.

Dear Rajiv,
Your view of South India seems confined to only the 3 states of Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Kerala but not Andhra Pradesh this is an aberration. All these 4 states have the Dravidian group of languages and share similar cultural ambience and food habits.

Maharashtra for reasons of history seems to stand differently from the other states although belonging to the peninsula of India. The Marathi language has the Devnagari script and is therefore seen to be a sister language of Hindi.

Ideally, Maharashtra should form a part of South India but is not perceived as such by the other states as a result the Marathi speaking people in the border areas of Karnataka have to put up the totally uncalled for tyranny of the state language.
Ironically, the Kannada speaking people of Maharashtra do not face the same treatment.

There's a lesson for the Southern states to shed their linguistic chauvinism and integrate as one economic zone much like the unified Germany to produce a land mass of unequalled prosperity for all, a tolerant land where the soul of our Hindu personality resides undaunted.

BIMARU States

If only the BIMARU (Bihar, MP,Rajasthan,UP) States can get their act together and stop being a drain on the economy of the nation, will India be able to achieve of 10%-12% GDP growth. At this point it's the southern states along with Maharashtra and Gujarath are driving forward the Indian economy.

Rajiv,
Please don't through these responses first.
Hey... one suggestion... When you headline something with South India please get all the details of South India and then write about it not just KL, TN AP or KA.

All other people who understood the theme and purpose,
There is very little addition to what Rajiv made. Please read Rajiv's next article.

All other Half-Brains... Anti-North,
First please be a proper reader. Nobody made any anti statements in the Article.

Other Northie fools who made NEGITIVE comments,
Understand Simple & Plain English first. You try to potray South people are not friendly. If they weren't you would have gone back to your homes on Day 1, the day you stepped in South. You don't have basic sense to understand what the article is about and give responses. No brains, just trying to drain your anger who writes a article.

South people like their culture. You expect them to learn Hindi at the same time they too can expect the same in their region. Ppl who do business learn local language coz they need to survive in other place. You came on job to survive in other state why do you cry on the region if you cannot change.
I am from North in AP

I completely agree with Madhwa, Krishnadevaraya, was a kannada king, but he did support all languages and ofcourse he wrote in telugu also. The author should do reasearch before writing such an essay/article as it is widely read and it gives wrong facts to the reader.

Guys,

Most of the posts in this newsboard is from typical Desis who cannot see beyond their usual stereotypical responses to catch phrases. As soon as you see "South India" in the headline, people immediately start interpreting the article as anti-north. As usual chauvinistic Kannadigas immediately jump at the mention of anything positive about anything Tamil. Please grow up guys..Rajeev was simply presenting his very positive views on the four southern states..as mentioned by somebody else on this message board, he is more familiar with Kerela and Tamil Nadu, hence his elaborate description of their history and economy. I see absolutely no reason for anybody to interpret this article as anti-north or an attempt to revive the North-South divide. By the same token, I do not see this negative sentiment when any article appears citing the glory of Punjab or other northern state. Why this double-standard?
